Members should be required to have a good working knowledge of English,

More to the point, the profiles should be able to be written at at least a junior high level, hell even a grade school level would be an improvement over some that I have seen.

There are no web based translators that will take real bad improper word usage and translate it into something that makes sense.

This is the perfect rant, short and to the point.

I'd be glad to fuck a sub with bad grammar.

(Grammarians will be able to point out at least two issues in that sentence.)

I appreciate the bad grammar/spelling as a screening device.

You realize this is an international website, with large portions of its user base from countries where English isn't the standard language?

You realize that not everybody in the US, or other English speaking countries have English as a mother tongue?

OsideGirl -> RE: New guideline suggestion for collarme. (3/22/2013 3:44:41 PM)

I actually kind of did use that as a screening device. If a guy couldn't take the extra few seconds of effort required to spell out words or run a spell check program, then my assumption was that he'd try to cut corners elsewhere.

If an American man cannot write correctly, I always used that as a screening tool.

If he was NOT an American, I gave wide leeway knowing English was not his native tongue.

This is why I use Firefox...automatic spell check.

Excuse me while I go to bed...I am still dealing with this head cold and the medicine is making me loopy.

are you freaking serious??? what do you want to do, make everyone pass an English test just to join? how Big Brotherish.. [:'(]

If someones writing is hard for me to understand I just move on.. sheesh.. and I can recall that happening only once before so its incredibly minor to me..

But go ahead.. try to make a mountain out of a mole hill.. see how far that gets ya.. [:D]

Besides it's so much fun to read some of those posts and tear them to shreds.

To be fair, much of the blame lately goes to autocorrect.

tsatske -> RE: New guideline suggestion for collarme. (3/22/2013 8:03:01 PM)

You can tell something from really bad grammer - there is a way English speakers with educational issues write, and it is, for instance, differant from the way foriegners who claim to be inAmerica write. the online translator has a certain sound to it. If you tell me you are in anothe country, I am delighted to make allowances, I love having foriegn penpals, and have several, from all over the world. If you tell me you are from some small town you googled up, I am going to be able to tell the difference by the way you write, and blow you off. Politely, of course :)

WebWanderer -> RE: New guideline suggestion for collarme. (3/22/2013 9:11:28 PM)

Just let them be. The illiterate mouth-breathers will hook up with one another, while those of us with immaculate profiles laugh at their expense. [:D]
