ORIGINAL: midmichiganguy Kirata, you are definitely misinformed here about the effects of pepper spray. I am a former Marine and we used to sniff cs gas and laugh through the pain. In fact we would deliberately ask to go to the gas chamber to get rid of our flu or cold because that stuff would clear you out in a heartbeat. Over time you got so used to it that you could breathe it all day with no issues. I can tell you this that if I were a criminal and someone pulled pepper spray or bear spray on me I would laugh at them. Go ahead, clear my sinuses for me! In the meantime you are going to piss me off and the hurt I inflict on you is going to be so much worse. Now when you mix in crackheads, illegal drugs, or other issues where people just don't feel or care about the pain so much then what do you have? You have an ineffective way of dealing with a problem. All good points. Yes, if a Marine or Seal or Green Beret or what have you decides to attack me, I'm probably done for no matter what. However, that doesn't mean pepper spray can't be a great aid in self defense against the average joe. For self defense, it's good. The problem is this. What happens when you go up to 10 women who carry pepper spray and ask them where it is? Wanna bet 9 of them have to dig around in their purse? The OP here specified lethal response which takes about everything off the table but firearms. My posts have been an attempt to point out the naivete' of someone who is on the record as being anti-gun calling for lethal response because he is against the only tool that can dependably do the job.
