Today's Sydney Morning Herald published an account of the life and times of Ben Zygier, who committed suicide in an Israeli prison some years ago.

While I can't give any guarantee of the accuracy of the account, the Sydney Morning Herald is one of the better quality newspapers here and usually can be relied upon to print the truth.

The tale makes very interesting reading ....

Yes. Fascinating. But probably not uncommon. The States have had our own double agents in the CIA and FBI. I don't know what else to make of it except offer the tag line from an old television series about NYC: "There are eight million stories in the naked city . . . and this is one of them."

Regards

What a dumbshit. Turning over clandestine documents. Not to mention, doing recruiting on his own without Mossad's knowledge and approval.

That said, not everything in the article makes sense. Nobody hires a lawyer to be an accountant, and nobody keeps moving him around after he fails in one job. The "CEO of a mid-sized company" was likely working in sympathy to Mossad.

Yes. I'm inclined to take it all with a pinch of salt too. Reading between the lines, it seems a lot of the info from originated inside Mossad. It's hardly a stretch to note that bureaucratic organisations (of any sort, anywhere) reveal/create stories to whitewash themselves.

As neither Zygier's family or the Australian Govt shows any sign of making waves over Zygier's unfortunate demise, it seems likely to me that the story will fizzle out. If Mossad gets out of this particular situation with its reputation more or less intact, I'd imagine it will be happy.
