I have always been hopelessly unmusical, to the extent that my violin teacher (when I was 8) secretly wrote to my parents to beg them to persuade me to pursue a different hobby.

That was till 2 years ago when a friend bought be a Ukulele!

I can bang out recognisable (if not entirely 'beautiful') renditions of a ton of Bob Dylan songs, plenty of other folk tunes and a host of christmas carols.

I can even play black magic woman by Santana, albeit very slo------wly.

I wonder what Europa would sound like on a Uke.

I play piano and flute and a bit of sax, but voice was my "major instrument" in college. I love to sing.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Who's A Musician Here? (3/26/2013 2:30:20 PM)

I grew up with a Brambach Baby Grand (Not one of these little suckers they're passing off, now-a-days) in the house and I was surrounded by uncles and aunts and grandparents that played musical instruments.

I managed to work out the melody to "Doe A Deer" on the piano when I was 5 and my doting grandparents decided I was a prodigy. I played the Viola in grade school and then, was given a harmonica and moved to the guitar. I taught myself bass and drums and fell into singing for a band.

The only "Proof" I have on the interwebs is of my singing. Those who are interested in a link can C-mail me.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Just started playing guitar again, after about 15 years - since the kids were born basically - now I have a garage, so I bought myself a Warlock!

Pianist, composer, arranger, conductor. Most of my work is involved with industrial film music: sound design, Foley, recording/mixing and creating electronic music film cores.

i play the french horn, trumpet and alto sax. a bit o tin whistle and bodhran. i can sing. attempting to teach myself bass guitar. my grandfather tried to teach me the fiddle but me being "cack handed" was too much of a frustration for him... so he said you shouldn't pic that up again, here try this whistle instead.

FrostedFlake -> RE: Who's A Musician Here? (3/26/2013 6:40:52 PM)

Strat.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Who's A Musician Here? (3/26/2013 6:53:51 PM)

I played violin in grade school, then moved to clarinet. Because I thought woodwinds were not macho enough, I changed over to brass. Euphonium, tuba, sousaphone. I quit the last after getting pelted once too often by idiots with pennies trying to land them in the horn. After high school, a buddy asked me to store some things, and as payment, I got a pawn-shop grade Cort bass guitar. The sheet music was similar to tuba, and I had a better chance of female panties being launched my way.

Sounds like you grew up at my house! We have a Brambach baby back home, too ^_^ It's the one I learned to play on, and my whole family is musical. A couple of my great uncles had recording contracts in the golden olden days. ^_^

Thanks everybody!! It's wonderful so many CMers are musical and the variety of instrumentation is amazing!

I wonder if we can put together a "C'Munity" band...virtual, of course. Maybe something like this choir: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7o7BrlbaDs

Who wants to conduct?

ProTools or 'other'? Am I the only one that thinks 'ProTools' sounds like something nasty?

Ooops, missed that you also conduct, sorry.

I am pleased, and affectionatly envious of you, Mistress. Play away, dear lady!

It's never too late to learn!

Mistress, I'll bet you're darned evil good with that fiddle. Your strength, clarity, simplicityl kindness and compassion always comes through in your posts, which I'm sure would translate into your playing style. Wish I could see and hear you play. Have you any tapes of yourself to share with us?

Musical regrets here. I was born with a strong vocal and instrumental musical bent, began playing piano by ear at the age of two (as soon as I could reach the keys), and later on took up the clarinet and acoustic guitar in the same way.

Dusky, you are far too kind :-) I don't know about 'evil good', but definitely 'evil' on that thing sometimes. [:D] I'll write you on the other side for music links.

Just bought a new birds-eye maple violin from China. My band-mate/luthier will trick it out decently, can't wait to see how it plays in when he's done. Ummm, that makes 3 violins, and that really SHOULD be my limit! I admit, I'm addicted to instrument acquisition. (2 four-string fiddles, 1 five-string fiddle, 3 Yamaha keyboards, 1 piano accordion, 1 Saltarelle melodeon...at least I'm down to just one guitar now.) [8D]

Anyone else hoard instruments?
