For the topic......

I believe you are asking why there are so many more men here on the site. The answer is threefold.

* Men sign up to internet social/dating sites in much larger numbers than women. Often, it's because of the misconception that it will be 'easier' to find somebody. It happens at an even higher rate here because many of these men are under the impression that kinky women are easy to get into bed.

* As a category, BDSM had generally had a higher percentage of males in comparison to females. That's regardless of role.

* Already mentioned, but in a little more detail, women honestly don't need the net for kink or sex. Both are easy to obtain without the additional step of sending emails or participating in chat. All I need from the net is to look up when the next play party is being held. (That's if one of the local members hasn't already called Me and asked Me if I'm going.) If I go, I'm going to have offers from people wanting to play. Darn near any competent female top is going to tell you the same thing.

*Edited to add the Chris Rock link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90qpDg5y7Lo

PS. I actually am in Alaska. Guess how big the odds are in My favor?

I suppose my initial question was 'Is the online ratio reflective of real life?' but then the answer to that is clearly 'depends'.

I think I'm going to take it as more evidence that real life is the place to be, and hope that the ratio isn't too horrific when I do get there!

Does it mean that there are many more men than women online

Simple answer?

Yes.

Men rule (most of) the world. And certainly men rule the Internet.

Hell, Men created the Internet (Al Gore notwithstanding).

Men create most things - men DO most things ... men are most scientists - men are most explorers - men fly most airplanes - men fight most wars - men play & watch more sports - men drive more miles than women - etc.

Women do outnumber men in some endeavors, e.g., universities have slightly greater enrollment than men, public schools are overwhelmingly female taught, hairdressers are overwhelmingly more often female, etc.

More to the point, on the USENET, men outnumber women something like 99:1. On this forum, it would seem to be less so, but I don't know the numbers.

However, it's clear that men rule the Internet, in general; so why wouldn't they rule this forum?

Adding the fact that porn is more than half the Internet and men overwhelmingly are 99% of porn's customers, men account for probably something like 95% of the Internet traffic.

It's what it is. And always will be. Unless you change 4 billion years of evolution in a lifetime.

WHat a load of crap!

Men tend to have a need to beat on their chest, yell POWER and AUTHORITY. We rule!!!!
Women tend to sit back, do their nails, or dishes, and say Thats exactly right dear! If it not for the behind the scenes group, alot of times women, all the little details that make something better or happen, would not happen.
ANd to be fair, women have not had the oppurtunities men have through out history. BUt thats changing! THere are some powerful women out there.
COnsidering the discussion. Men outnumber women, women dont think with thier pussies as much as men do with their cocks, Women look for mates, men look for sex, women stay behind the stage, women child rear, women are the structure of the home. You just dont see them as much, but they are there, and they are always thinking.

Something that I have been wondering recently. In a lot of threads here, it is said that there are a lot more men than women, whether Dom, Sub, or Switch. For the last couple of hours I have been wondering why that is - and under what terms that hypothesis stands. I am yet to venture out into real life, I am still an online warrior until I graduate, so apologies if this is a really obvious question that has been answered many times.

Does it mean that there are many more men than women online - or on Collarme specifically - and that in real life there tends to be a more even spread? From what I can tell of the regulars on Collarchat there seems to be a more even spread than the correlation between gender and private messages would suggest. So are men just more desperate then, more willing to send message after message? Generalising massively, it could seem that quite a few of the female regular posters are in committed LTRs, so is the difference just that men are more likely to be single? Having said that, quite a few of the male posters here seem to be in LTRs as well, so is that men are more likely to look outside of their existing relationships and therefore form a bigger group than women? Or is it just that quite simply there are more men into BDSM than women?

Even before the internet, I used to notice that in the Personals section of the local weekly here, there were almost always more ads from males than from females. I've also noticed this on most online personals sites as well.

However, when this topic came up before, I also looked at the Alexa data on some of the religious-based personals sites, and it seems that there is a female-majority among users on those sites.

I'm not sure what that means, whether women are more devoutly religious than men or if there's some other possible explanation.

I would agree with JeffBC that it's implausible that there would be that many more single men than women out there. Since women slightly outnumber men in the general population, it stands to reason that there are probably more single women than single men overall. This is especially true in the upper age brackets, since women live longer, the female-to-male ratio becomes even more pronounced.

Someone else mentioned that it's easier for women to find someone for a quick lay, since all they have to do is go down to their local bar. Of course, the same option exists for men, although it would depend on the male-to-female ratio in any given bar or club (which can vary widely).

I was also thinking of another possibility. I've often heard it said that men are more visual, so it may be easier for a man to get revved up on the internet just from visual stimuli (such as pictures on a dating site). But something I just heard the other morning on the radio was that more than 60% of women are willing to kiss a guy on the first date if he smells good. While it seems like a somewhat trivial point, it did make me wonder about what it actually means. However, it made me think that you can't transmit smells over the internet, so just looking at computer screen with a picture on it may not carry any "zing," not as much as other stimuli that one gets from meeting in person.

Perhaps sounds might also be a certain stimulus, since women seem more inclined to want to talk on the phone as opposed to chatting over the internet. You can't really hear the inflections in one's voice, the emotions, etc. in a text-based communication, but over the phone or in person is different.

That may be part of it, in that women might still be looking, but looking at other factors which may not be immediately discernible over the internet. So the internet might be seen as a waste of time for the purpose of finding a match, since one can't get the information one needs to make a decision about a potential partner. Arranging an actual meeting might take time, while it might be easier to just go to a social gathering where one can see and meet people right off the bat without the barriers of communication which exist over the internet.

With men, all they have to do is see a picture on the internet, think "Whoa! She's HOT!!" and the decision is already made in their mind. Men are able to find what they're looking for on the internet. It doesn't mean they're going to get it or be able to keep it, but they can find it.

Women seem to be looking along different parameters, and the internet seems insufficient for being able to gauge all of those parameters.

chatterbox24 -> RE: Why are there so many more men? (not a moan!) (3/29/2013 8:23:25 AM)

In my personal opinion, and experience, the majority of women lead men to spirituality or religion and are more second in command, but spiritual or religious men if devout, become the leaders. Everyone plays roles in life, and there are always exceptions to rules. But this I can say I have had a bit of experience in, and in my lil slice of life thats what I have witnessed.

Yes. A man doesn't let the idiot pronouncements of a woman bother him in any way. He doesn't bother trying to reframe her nonsense or justify who he is. He simply chuckles with amusement at her idiocy and moves on.

Same can be said for women, and the way they view men.

TAFKAA -> RE: Why are there so many more men? (not a moan!) (3/29/2013 8:54:26 AM)

Oh, if only they could. A good percentage of the nonsense here is where women suffer a wound to their ego and proceed to go nuts for an entire thread.

If the women here had the restraint and indifference of dominant men, there'd be far less inane fucking chatter in this forum, that's for damn sure.

Women may lead men to spirituality in other ways, too. I've heard some men who may have continued bad luck with women say that they may have to become monks. [;)]

I'm agnostic myself, so it would be difficult to convert me to any religion.

Actually, the male to female ratio is real life is so close to 1:1 that it's really not the right question.

Did you take economics 101? Remember the money supply multiplier? In short, it goes (something) like this:
a) There is only so much money
b) But, if a bank only needs to keep 20% on hand, it can lend out 80% of its depositor assets
c) Add to that credit and other multipliers

In the end, the "supply" of money can be magnified many times (depending on economic policies and the economy).

To relate that back to men, they have this multiplier thing inborn in them. On the net, they multiply their presence, probably 100 to 1000 fold from what they are in real life. They do this by being very active in any one profile, and having multiple profiles, of many types, so as to cast the widest net they can. Don't blame them - it's who they are and what they need to be in order to survive.

They're driven to this because they are men.

The motivations your reading into my post don't
reflect why I posted it, I wasn't justifying myself,
and neither did I find her post to be idiocy.
They may be your thoughts and feelings, but they
aren't mine.

I appreciated her thoughts because they appeal
to my sense of pragmatism but are based on what
is observable not what is experienced, so I added
my views on my experience.

I've been accused of self aggrandisement in the
past, so the distinction I'm drawing between being
male and being a man, may sound like arrogance
to some, I'll leave that to the individual to decide.

Ok this is off topic but this is a blatant lie

That's why women don't spend much time "looking" for casual sex. It is readily available to them.

I spent MONTHS looking for casual sex with a man and I'm a pretty attractive female. The only ones to reply to my queries were so disgusting I'd rather shove salt rocks up my ass than ever give them the time of day. I probably would have had better luck at a bar, but social anxiety prevented me from going that route.

thezeppo -> RE: Why are there so many more men? (not a moan!) (3/30/2013 12:38:02 AM)

What I'm starting to get from this thread is that I'm not a man apparently! It seems that a lot of the qualities associated with being a man I associate with being, well, a knob. Surely there is more than one way to express masculinity, beyond doing/saying anything to fuck someone?

That's true. It's much harder for a woman to find casual sex than people would assume... providing she is actually open, honest and upfront about the fact that she's looking for casual sex... but if you were open and honest about it, going to a bar wouldn't have helped much.

If I go to a bar, and play at not wanting sex, I'll have some guy trying to seduce me within minutes, and I could go home with a different guy every night. However, a couple years ago a friend of mine dared me on an experiment to go pick up a guy in a singles bar, using none of the normal female "seduce me" tricks, and instead, just walk up straight to them and tell them: "I'm looking for a one nightstand, if that's something you're interested in, do you want to discuss it over a drink?"
I was expecting it to be the easiest thing in the world to find a guy interested in a one-night stand like that... turns out it wasn't... at all. I asked over 30 guys, all of them single, all of them turned me down.

The best way for a woman to get casual sex is to give the guy no indication whatsoever she's interested in it.
Guys tend to not be interested in women whom they don't win, and conquer, so they shy away at women who assertively look for casual sex. Whenever you hear guys bitching and moaning about women not being "easy" enough, and how they wish women would be as interested in casual sex as they are, it's all talk... if those same guys actually get faced with a woman like that, they all chicken out.
