Porsche revives red-hot 911 GT3; 195 mph, $131,350

NEW YORK -- Porsche unveiled the 2014 911 GT3 to celebrate 50 years of the 911 in the U.S.

The GT cars are the sportiest 911s. They come and they go. Last GT in the U.S. was 2010. This one's a 2014.

It, and an enormous cake at the New York International Auto Show, marked the 50th year of the automaker's signature 911 sports car on these shores. It replaced the 356, which was based on the air-cooled, rear-engined Volkswagen Beetle of the time -- though quite modified.

The 2014 GT3 goes on sale in November, starting at $131,350 including $950 shipping. The 3.8-liter flat-six-cylinder is rated 475 horsepower, able to yank the car to 60 mph from standstill in a blistering, motorcycle-like 3.3 seconds, and hit a top speed of 195 mph, Porsche says.

Great price

Let's face reality, the 911 has been the best sports car for the money since it was first introduced. Granted, the body styling hasn't changed in the years, but the car has gotten faster.

Add to that they are smaller than the average Lambo, Ferrari and the other super cars, which improves performance and handling.

The only problem, no place to put a gun rack.

This is a big statement!  Do you mean initial price and/or total price over the term
of ownership, or per mile?

Especially from somebody living in the US where most of the mechanical parts for a
Corvette or Mustang can be had for pennies on the dollar compared to a Porsche.

By the way; what do you mean by sports car?  The original quote spoke of a GT
car.  I am not sure the writer knows the difference between a sports car and a
legitimate GT car.  What does your statement cover?

...but does it have a vacuum like the new Honda Odyssey?

That car is pretty damned sexy. I want to lick it and whomever drives it off the lot.

When I said price was reasonable, I was referring to overall cost as compared to the European super cars like the Lambo and Ferrari.

It is a gt 911, which is a two seat high performance sports car, I really dont think you could call it a grand touring car.

While these cars are certainly beautiful to look at, and if you have that kind of money to throw away and a need for the status, in the US, these cars are simply a waste. We don't have an autoban for them to really be driven the way they were meant to be driven.

Personally, if I had 130 grand to spend on something, I would spend it on something more useful like a home on a lot of land somewhere.

If I had 130Gs, I could buy enough blowjobs I wouldn't have time for a car.

Well, in my younger days, I would have been tempted by the Porsche, today I will settle for a $56,000 Ram 3500 4x4

Ah, but that is a useful vehicle. The ability to drive in all kinds of weather, haul stuff and you can comfortably have sex in the back. Can't do that with a Porsche.

But the Porsche makes women want to have sex with you, which the Ram doesn't.

You obviously dont live in truck country. I have scored more girls driving a well maintained 4x4 truck then any muscle or sports car did with the exception of the '63 split window corvette coupe I had.

I admit that I would not mind getting either a late 60's dodge or chevy muscle car , or an early 60's dodge or GM pickup, to restore with my grand son and my 13 month old great nephew (he got small hands, can get into places I cant) as a project.

I would even go for a 30's or 40's replica GM or Dodge coupe to build as a 50's style hot rod.

Now granted, at today's gas prices, I could not afford to drive the muscle car or the hot rod on any kind of daily use, but the local car clubs have two cruise nights a month which follows the old almost prehistoric cruising circuit of the old days when gas was 10 cents a gallon... part of the cruise nights are contests for best car, best period costume, and most popular.

Locals who come out to look at the cars cast votes in each of the categories, and winners get $100 and the rest of the money from entry fees goes to a local charity of the the winners choices.

There are also cruise nights in Dallas, Houston and Austin that have bigger prizes, and with the same distribution of money raised.

It is a lot of fun for the old croonie car buffs to show true classic iron and replica iron to the rice burning youngsters.

You're obviously not from the South.

You know, a cargo light puts off quite a romantic glow.
