My NECK!!!!!!!

Little back ground.. i ripped a neck muscle when i was 19 cos i thought i was all sorts of strong and helped lift, go up a few stairs a 3 seater hide a bed couch.  (But it was either me or my mother helping.. so i choose me)  Never got treatment cos well i'm of the type that i'm "all sorts of tough"   I just know that, i couldnt turn my head in one direction with out massive amounts of pain shooting.  (lol so i didnt turn my head that way)  Twas like that awhile.  I say its ripped, cos every time i run into some one that knows ANYTHING about muscles i interrogate and convince them to work on my shoulders or back or neck.  Ran into a chiropractor one night working as a waitress.

Foggy information.. but point is my neck muscles arent great.

They were doing gooooooooood and then i went to visit my brother in texas and i dun like him or his wife really (i allowed myself to be bamboozled into going) Add to them being childless and my over active completely energetic 24/7 short person.  Well.  Add to that their feather bed and keeping peace as best i could non stop for 6 days.

i got really really tense.  Last night i was up till all hours trying to massage it out.  Ropes, knots, and tons of these odd little bumps.. heh.  So now it hurts just to touch the muscle.  Ya know, the one going down the left side, on next to your spine connection your head to your shoulders.  UG  And feeling it.. it like lumps out.  Which is abit strange.

Think i just aggrivated the situation last night.. so i'm not sure if i should try working on it anymore?  Yesterday it hurt so bad that it was starting to spread a slow throb to the back of my head.  Least me working on it stopped that and the constant pain.  Now it just hurts to touch it and is annoying.

Like i know i can go to a chiropracter.. but that'll take a while.  Finding one, setting up an appointment all that.  Stood in the shower letting hot water pour on it.  i've tramadol for back pain.. but it isnt doing anything for my neck.

See and now the other side wants to sympathize and is deciding to tighten up as well.  Not sure what to do, to "fix" it.  What "I" can do.  Might end up just locating a nearby short person and having them step on my neck.  And no that wont damage me (tho i dunno what it'll do to the unhappy muscle)  i'm just one of those that need about 40 lbs of pressure on my back and neck to make it feel better at times.  More pressure would be good.. but i take what i can get.

So good folks of Collarme............  any suggestions?

try rubbing alcohol or Absorbene Jr. (however that's spelled), alternating heat and cold packs also might help, soaking in a very warm tub with scented bubble bath or candles around. i'll look into it further to see what else might help also.

A yoga treatment might help. Tell your yoga teacher about the problem and propose a knocking - or perhaps the English term is tapping - treatment.

Unusual movements might also help. A friend of mine suffered from a whiplash. It gradually improved, but the major break came when she went ice-skating about one year later. Suddenly the muscles in her back and neck released because she was swinging her arms like skaters do.

It appears that your neck muscle gets into a knot and tensed up due to stress, though. This stress probably is related not to your stay with your relatives, but to your temporary separation from your master. So meditation and relaxation exercises may be in order. When you attain serenity and are at peace the strained muscle should relax and function normally.

So, I do not think this primarily has anything to do with the muscle having ripped six years ago. It may have been a manifestation of stress all this time.

I like accupunture. I would go every day if I could.

Word of advice- avoid too many steroidal injections....

Soak in a nice tub.  They make ben gay type patches of all sizes now.

Make sure your pillows are good in bed. Your spine needs correct alignment. Also- wear correct shoes. [spiked heals not good...]

Try massaging along the base of your skull, really dig in hard, circular motions. Then reach over your shoulder and massage right at the top corner of your shoulder blade, (the corner nearest your spine), dig in under there, circular motions. If its levator scap it should give you some relief, if not, you havent lost anything

With the lumpy bits, go a bit easier, just gentle little circles and then gentle stroking.

I keep all my tension in my shoulders and neck.  I bought one of those shoulder shiatsu electric things.  Sadly, I often push myself too hard and end up with compression bruises- BUT it gets rid of the tightness for a few days!

RiotGirl,

Please, do get help with the neck injury. I sprained my neck at age 15. Now, it's better, but I go to a chiropractor every other month, and it REALLY helps! The one I go to, will accept payment on a sliding scale, if money is an issue. A visit, is only $15 if you are uninsured.

Ice! Takes down the swelling and inflammation. I ice my neck after a tough workout or uh... work ;) even preventively. It really helps! I know, a neck injury can be so painful!

Ice and rest. It will heal. Massage helps too.

Hopefully, you can get a good chiro. Like anything, some are better than others. I am "tough" too. My chiro says that if I get hurt while away, be sure to go to one who specializes in sports medicine- like football teams!

Sometimes, even the tough need care. Please don't be mean to yourself. If not taken care of; these injuries can be lifelong.

Hope you feel better soon,
Fawne

Thanks guys.

Jali - thats what i was doing.  There was like a knot at the base of my skull that roped down to knots and odd things at where my spine connected to my shoulders. The main "ow" right now IS at the base of my skull - where it is lumped in my neck. Making the spine that connects to my neck hard to find.  <wink wink>  Learned the circular motion thing ages ago.. even dug in with my knuckles for awhile.. tried circular motions.. tried just using a thumb and pressing to get the knot to release.  Seems its just gotten worse.  i dunno.

Rule its not from Master.  Its from my brother and his princess high strong more intense then i am wife.  My neck and shoulders was doing GREAT before i left.  It was awesome!  (i even made a post about it) heh

Acupuncture - aaaaaaaaaaaaah  but it does work for my sciatic nerve.  LOL

Electric - ooooooooh hell no!  (glad you like it)

Will try the cold and hot compresses.  The high heels are not going.  They're good for my posture!  Michael thanks for looking around for me = )  Rule, i'll speak to the yoga instructer.  Twas supposed to go today, but since i couldnt fall asleep till about 5 am i got up abit late = (

thanks guys!  Appreciate the help

I have been suffering this since the accident at the end of May. I get accupuncture and go for PT. The beginning of the week the left side of my neck was so bad i couldnt move, Dr used the accupuncture with the electric or something next day i go in and say i dont want you to think im nuts but now its the opposite side, so they did it again. its seems to be a pain in the ass recovery. I feel like a 75 yr old woman sometimes lol
I do hope you are feeling better soon
