ppl socialize more actively in California then is rural PA. 2 families moved here from CA, got abit a a shock.

Maybe its the saying the grass is always greener?  I've found California bit of a crappy state to live in.  Yes, I have lived elsewhere and I will again.  People tend to be more friendly in other states.  Out here you don't even know your neighbor most of the time.
Of course it also depends on the neighborhood.  After finally getting married and being able to live with my dom a full 7 days a week instead of just 4.  His neighborhood is fantastic.  Of course my old neighborhood wasn't all that bad either.
Out of about 20 houses on the block....maybe 7 socialized with us on a weekly basis.
Not great odds but not the worst either.

TV image of US.....people comming round with Apple Pie when you move in.....reality ........three months later, first neighbour....o are you new.........second neighbour (a month later) ........ arn't you American ................. we almost pride ourselves in Britain on being standoffish...but the Midwest turned it into an art form....... lol  :)
