Now I've never thought of this but it is almost that way now. I mean after all, it does cost so much to be raising capital, oh I am sorry...free speech ($6 million per year is it now ?) I need to be spending more time with my 'constituents' right ?

A telecommuting congress and this when they already spend only 129 days in session or in their offices and 136 days 'off' hobnobbing around town with lobbyists and sycophants.

This is what the political class has degenerated into now. Here

A friend says 'I just want them to do their job, I don't care where it is.'

Mr.Rodgers, I like the idea "in theory".
I enjoyed reading some of the comments below the article.

I have to agree with the comments made by someone called "staffer" who stated" Trust me, the lobbyists visit the district as well. This wouldn't change a thing. Like it or not, this line of work requires working relationships which video conferencing can't replace. This idea won't go anywhere."

As bad as the current situation is in Congress, I still think they need the face to face haggling/and the opportunity to hammer out ideas and "make deals".

They do need the face-to-face time to haggle and make deals. Personally, I'd much rather see them in Washington less and actually out in their districts more, though. It's more to "keep in touch" with their constituents than anything.

Well I just continue to believe that our nation started with the idea that congress would hold sessions only a few months of the year and then go home until the next year.

Legislative sessions would be say winter and spring then go home and come back in the fall at say the start of the fiscal year 10/01 pass budget bills and then go home for the holidays. In other words a part time job where they are paid for only their part time sessions.

Yes, that would mean only a paltry $90something thousand not the $185K they get now. A citizen legislator not a professional political class.

From home they could telecommute all they want.

Wait, I just had a thought, could they filibuster from home ? Can't telecommute them can they ? Course I guess we aren't talking the senate although I think they'd like to come up with something too.

Biden and Obama have agreed to comment as soon as they can make time in their vacation schedule...

Vice President Biden today is enjoying his third vacation of the year, a five day sojourn on South Carolina’s luxurious Kiawah Island...

Biden’s trip is the latest episode in a bout of rampant vacationing by the First and Second Families, who have been roaring out of Washington this year on taxpayer-funded excursions even as the deficit mounts and the sequester axes jobs and critical spending on other priorities...

Biden should feel especially refreshed when he returns given that he just had a vacation last month in Snowmass, Colorado, where he spent several days over President’s Day weekend. Close by in a neighboring section of Colorado’s ski country was First Lady Michelle Obama, who was taking her second vacation of the year in Aspen.

Over the same President’s Day weekend, President Obama was roving the fairways at an exclusive golf resort in Florida... He and Mrs. Obama had already spent part of late December and early January in Hawaii. Biden’s first trip this year was a sun worshiping exercise in the U.S. Virgin Islands

well if yiou want to have some fun, just ask them how they knew how to vote and to provide you with the documentation for it.

They cannot!

They cant even provide the proper paperwork to show they are legitimate states! No referendums nada.

It simply does not exist! You are led to believe you the people are controlling the country. If that would be in fact true a paper trail would exist. I did that with 2 states, I asked them to provide all documentation and resources to prove they were in fact a state. "Voted in and upon by the inhabitants" They admit they do not have it! LMAO

AND THE BEAT GOES ON! and on and on and on!

Are either Obama or Biden even remotely close to being on vacation as much as W? Not even close.

Until they are whining about their taking time off by conservatives is pretty damn silly.
