Powergamz1 -> RE: Army will not grant Purple Hearts (4/2/2013 8:23:36 PM)

It is sometimes said that other medals are awarded in the sense that an action needs to be documented, while the Purple Heart is purely a matter of status.

Whether someone gets a bullet through their body, or a splinter from diving for cover, they would meet the status, if the factors of 'enemy action' are present. A lot of what is being posted on the internet about 'must be a formal declaration of war', or 'while in direct combat' just isn't so.

So the idea of saying 'Hey wait a minute, here's the wound, and there's the enemy action , where's my PH?' isn't as outrageous as all that.

Saying 'Where's my Silver Star?' might be seen as gauche in some (but not all) circles.

Do soldiers in the United States have an established right to receive decorations and honors, or is they awarded as a discretionary exercise by the appropriate military and civilian authorities?

Anyone here who thought he had any right to demand an honor or award would be held in great contempt.

But we now know Major Hason had communications with known Taliban terrorists, a group we recognize as terrorists and fight against. His actions of shouting Islamic sayings and shooting US military personell prove he changed alligence to the Taliban and became a genuine Islamic terrorist. He meets all the legal definitions of a "terrorist."

The wounded servicemen rightly deserve the medal.

Except... The current Presidential Administration says otherwise. Hason's actions are deemed a crime, not an act of war or terrorism.

Powergamz1 -> RE: Army will not grant Purple Hearts (4/2/2013 10:38:20 PM)

Unlike Presidents, the DoD aren't elected every 4 years.

The leadership at the Pentagon is making the determination.

I suspect that 5 minutes after Hassan is convicted that the medals will be forthcoming.

My friend was shot, my other friend (roommate) was shot to death along with 4-5 other acquaintances over the years. They didn't whine like babies they wanted trophies, medals or shiny objects. Signing up to invade nations and kill other humans in nations which have not attacked us.... Doing this for the ruling class. Sometimes when you are in someones yard they shoot back. Sometimes when you kill civilians or kill people in general, people get pissed. If you do not like it, no one made you sign up - Quit. There are better things to spend my tax dollars on. If you do not want to get shot don't kill people for any mafia. No degree or rocket science required. People get shot all the time, every day in fact. I do not hear them wanting purple hearts, bronze stars or whatever. I just can never comprehend why people in the military think they are special. [:o]

If you want trophies get a hot slave. If you like shiny, spank that ass till it is red. [8D]

Because they are.

The DoD answers to the President....

What the hell are you babbling about this time?

Exactly what part of "The honor and award of a Purple Heart is reserved for American Military Personal wounded by acts of war by enemy combatants. The Obama Administration does not view this as such ergo no Purple Hearts. The Army answers to the President." Don't you understand?

The whole bit of shiteating asswipe.  Cement is heavier than air.  Therefore we should build lighter than air aircraft from cement logic of the rabid right.

You should know that the current Secy Defense has two purple hearts.   There is a regulation, a stated policy, and why would someone void that longstanding policy cuz some teabagger is whining and shitting his pants dont you understand?

No, not really.  The Secretary of Defense answers to the president and the DoD answers to the Secretary.

But again, because some whiney teabaggers who want something to pound their puds about and howl and gnash their teeth is no reason to change the meaning of words or long held policies of the government.

It could be said if this was so fucking important that when there was a republican administration the regulations could have been changed then.

They were not.

I don't see how a purple heart will bring them back to life or materially change the situation. How many purple hearts were handed out in the republican invasion and subsequent war with Iraq, and what are you doing about the W administrations denial of head injuries to those victims?  Because those folks are still walking this earth.

Though I do not want to digress. But felt that worth a mention.

Your other friend didn't whine after they were shot to death?

Are you sure? Maybe they were just pretending to be dead...

So good with the name calling aren't you... its a shame you were bullied in school, your's must have been particularly brutal.

Anyway... OK.... how about this:

If the PRESIDENT would allow the attack to be called what it was... A TERRORIST ACTION TARGETING US MILITARY PERSONNEL, then the deserving solders would be properly decorated.

The President DOES NOT have to overturn or change regulation or stated policy just acknowledge what the attack really was!

There are at least 2 decorations awarded automatically if the stated conditions are met. The Good Conduct Medal, awarded to enlisted for 4 years of service without being disciplined, and the Purple Heart Medal, awarded for being wounded by the enemy or in a combat theater.

What name calling, there is something wrong with your comprehension.

Perhaps they did not award these purple hearts as an exception, for consistency with the teabagger governments:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Seifert

Siefert and Stone were not awarded purple hearts.   So, thats why this is the work of whining bitches.  I didnt hear anyone out here crying and shitting themselves over this.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Army will not grant Purple Hearts (4/4/2013 12:21:15 PM)

Oh yeah.... I forgot about your "Oh yeah, well what about ___" constantly living in the past arguments.

This is now...

Hasan committed a terrorist act against our military forces during a time of war. The Obama Administration refuses to treat it that way for domestic political reasons.

And you are right, the President should also classify the Hasan Akbar Case in Kuwait as an enemy terrorist attack as well and correct a mistake.

mnottertail -> RE: Army will not grant Purple Hearts (4/4/2013 12:37:10 PM)

No he did not.

Nah, there is no reason for the United States Army to change their policy cuz a few hundred teabaggers are flouncing around like peri-menopausal drag queens, because that is their constant state.
