So...not sure if this has been asked before, but I've always had this problem with ball gags in the past. Never seem to be able to fit the gag snugly and securely in my partner's mouth without pulling the straps _ridiculously_ tight till that they cut (yes, literally) into the corner of the mouth (not my thing).
Am I doing it wrong, or is it just the gags I have being poorly-made?

Nope, you're not doing it wrong, that's normal.

With a normal ball gag with a single strap, even if you put a ball gag on me tight enough so that it will bruise my cheeks and cut the corners of my mouth, I can still expel it if I want to.

Seeing that ball gags don't actually prevent a person from speaking, or making sound, even when fully inserted, I've never considered it an issue, because you're already relying on the sub's cooperation to make them "effective".

If you want something more secure, try a butterfly gag, or another type of insertable with a mouth patch and chin strap. Ball gags with a harness instead of a single strap tend to be more secure also. Lastly, the bigger the ball, the easier it is to make it secure. Ideally you want a ball that's just barely too big to make it passed the sub's teeth, so that' the main tension of the strap is on keeping the mouth open, instead of on keeping the ball behind the sub's bite. Unfortunately I have yet been able to find a ball gag big enough for that, seeing that my bite is big enough that I can fit a tennis ball into my mouth if I want to. [:D]

Yeah, I'm actually cool with needing cooperation to keep the ball in, just hate that ball gags never look like they are fitting properly unless (as before) they're extremely tight. Tried a ring before, but ended up worrying about chipped teeth (it was bare metal).
Coming back to the subject, any feedback on this kind of ball gag? Has a string-like thing instead of a strap, wondering if it cuts less. Only reason why I didn't get the one in the pic is due to bad experience with the maker (really rubbery taste).

Unless you're after a ball gag aesthetic there are other, better options as have been pointed out earlier.

My submissive usually uses clean panties in a size a bit smaller than she normally wears then she covers her mouth with 3M microfoam tape. She also sometimes uses a foam ball she bought from Amazon. I could ask her what brand if you're interested.

I have that same gag, though I've changed it years ago and put leather straps that can be locked on it. It's my absolute favorite, because it's bigger than most others that I can find, it doesn't damage the corners of my mouth (I love gags to be as tight as humanly possible) and I happen to like to taste of rubber it has... it helps "center" me and remind me of the bondage being there.

The on on that site claims to be made of silicon, instead of rubber and to have no taste at all. Did you buy from that seller and find that to be untrue, because the one I have definitely isn't tasteless?

Inghammar: Thanks for the offer, but for stuffing, I usually just go with whatever there is on hand (clean socks usually)

UlrsIshtar: I think the packaging itself claims its silicon, but there may be small print. In fairness to the sellers which I've seen carry it, none actually claim its tasteless. My issue is partly with the taste, but more of whether there's actually some chemicals that may be harmful. The other gag I have from the same manufacturer actually tastes like chewing on a car tire.

Yeah that's what mine taste like too.

I smoke, drink, and eat a bunch of crap I shouldn't, so I'm willing to take the risk of harmful chemicals if I feel it enhances my life somehow, so I've never been worried about it. But I understand if other's would be worried.

I'm sure you know this, but the lack of taste isn't a good indicator that there aren't any harmful chemicals coming off a plastic/rubber type gag. If you ever find any documentation that that specific gag in question is harmful, I would love it if you shared it, considering that I use, and have used it a lot. [:D]

You know how you take a pair of say sports socks out of the dryer and lay them one on the other then kind of turn them inside out forming a ball. Well my Dom once poked a hole threw them ,inserted a leather thong and shoved it into my mouth , she tied the thong around my head loe down ,and the thong stoped me from swallowing it ,just in case . it got soggy but worked ,i sure couldnt expell it.
