Could be trouble....

When I first got him and then (over time) let him outside (calm down cat lovers...I'm one of those who believe cats gotta run), he first started bringing me small things (teensy tiny meeses)....then bigger things (bigger meeses)....all of course, lovingly placed by my shoes....every morning....

Lately, he's out like 37 hours a day bringing in anything that'll fit through the fucking cat door...he's on a gawdamn rampage....most of which I have to move furniture because of ("what the flying FUCK is that smell?????"), thankfully I have all concrete floors (gotta love being single :) )....so far none have been as large as a moose....

So....moments ago I slid the little kitty door slider thingie which stops a cat from leaving the premises.

Sumpin tells me that over the next 3 days my little pal is going to get unbelievably cozy ("I love you Daddy")....and within 5 days...clawing shit unrelentingly, making everything I have worth pennies on the dollar.

Awwwww, I couldn't help but grin a little reading your post. I once had a cat do the same thing. It is the greatest gift a cat will give - present you with a gift of her hunt. Our cat (bless her soul she is long gone now) stood over her prey (still flapping, or whatever) and purred as loudly as she could, her posture so perfect and her eyes closed. She was so filled with pride in her catch. Your cat loves you very very much.

Grin? I laughed out loud and that is no easy task for someone to achieve on these boards (yet you do have a knack for it).

I would suggest that before the cozy phase is over, you slide the thingie back so he can go out when he wants to.

I have two cats. A mother and son. The mother is a hunter, but as an indoor cat in a house without critters, she settles for chasing the caps to my water bottles if she can get a hold of one (I keep them on the bottles).

The son? I don't think he would be able to hunt down a mouse with three broken legs. He's not the "hunter" variety. He is, however, the vindictive type. My son and his family were recently staying with me for a while. So Charlie decided to tell him how much he didn't like him by shitting on their bed. He also will shit right outside his litter box or piss on the floor if he feels that the litter box hasn't been scooped to his liking.

He has become more of an outdoor cat for this reason.

So please Lookie, give us some examples of his more interesting catches.

Well, I am sure they are to come....probably holding him back is only destining me to larger catches.

I think I'm gonna charge him....3 bucks a pound.

(Excuse me...I need to set up a Craigslist ad...find the guy a job that pays well).

One of mine is a hunter, but potential prey is limited because I live in an apartment and her only outdoor access is to a terrace. This hasn't stopped her. I have been presented with cockroaches, and on one memorable occasion, the tail of a tiny lizard (the body then came running in looking for the tail).

The other is a big wuss scared of her own shadow and couldn't catch a cold.

Ahh I feel ya Lookie. I'd consider it fortunate if my cat thought killing me would sate his anger for no longer letting him outside to hunt. He however is way smarter than that and knows damn well "Momma gives him the gud fudz so killin her wud be bad" (<--he put that on a post it to Dad last week btw...the cat did, I swear)
So, his revenge is 2 fold now...He flicks his cat litter out of the box as far as he can toss it every time he takes a crap...and the SECOND it leaves his ass, the entire house smells like a toxic waste dump...you know the kind, brings tears to your eyes, you can't see anything clearly, the paint begins peeling off the walls and you have to open windows...of course the neighbors all call the EPA.
He is extremely lucky Momma loves him because damn...he may in fact BE killing me...but slowly, ever so slowly.

My female is a digger like that as well. Got a covered litter box which solves that problem. Only the litter stuck to their feet makes it out of the box. Since it has a door, it helps with the odor problem as well. Very worth it.

Aww, what a darlin' little kitty. My godmother's cat -- her name was Milo, but I called her Xena, for obvious reasons -- brought in a dead skunk once and just purred happily as we screamed and ran for fucking cover. Cats are so freaking awesome.

I let my cats out too. I always get THE LOOK from their vets.

My cats used to do the same thing, only I don't have a cat door, I let the boys in and out of the house as I have a large yard and something of a garden and orchard for them to have territory in.

I put a small book case near the door and put my shoes and boots up on it. Made it very hard for my boys to drop dead mice into.

Cat psychology... Your cat loves you a lot and thinks you can't hunt. Any non-meat is not "food", lol, so that morning breakfast of cold cereal...they're not buying it. I used to eat cereal or a bagel or grab a slice of cold leftover pizza and run off to work, eating a cheap lunch somewhere away from home, and often grabbing some fast food (my fave for a while was Chinese, mostly noodles or rice) and then coming home to a snack, like cookies. My cats were like...YOU'RE NOT EATING! Here's a mouse, dummy, you're supposed to eat it!

It stopped when I became the provider in a way they could understand. Not just canned catfood or cat kibble...I cooked meat and shared my meat with them. They don't feel the need to feed me or train me to hunt anymore.

It changed when I brought two kittens into my house. I allow the alpha girl to go outside, and one of my boys, Cyrano, decided she needed to learn to hunt and eat "real food" so he started bringing in dead moles, a dead snake, mice, birds, and don't ask me why...huge SLUGS. (Blech) After she showed some interest, which took a while, she started playing floor hockey with the little carcass...so he escalated her lessons and started bringing home crippled and dying critters. One time he had a dead bird between his teeth and she walked right up to him and ripped it out of his teeth and then took off running; the bird was nowhere to be seen after that, lol. Then came the "live and running" lessons.

He stopped teaching her how to hunt when she started bringing home dead critters herself. When she brought home a live baby mole and started toying with it, he lost patience and took it away from her and swallowed it, LOL, a "Stop playing with your food!" lesson.

It's been two years now. My other girl cat is an omega, can't say boo to her own shadow and stays upstairs. She never goes outside so I hope Cyrano won't decide to teach her how to hunt this year.

Since I've been eating bean burritos and very little meat this past week, we need to cook chicken, a pork roast, or some other meat...and share it...so that my alpha cats don't try to step into the role of loving provider again...
