Adam18750 -> Kitty Play (4/3/2013 1:34:26 AM)

I'm seeking any knowledge I can get on what it takes to have my own kitty. My partner is more than game, and had kitten like tendencies that just put an odd smile on my face long before we knew anything of the sort existed. Is there an experienced kitten, or even an owner, that can help me, us, into having a relationship everyone should experience?

What does it take? Some experience with a real kitten. Go to a shelter and see if you can foster a kitten until they find a forever home for it. Take care of the kitten. Feed it the best food you can find, buy it toys, clean up after it when it makes a mess or misses the litter box. Take it to the vet for a checkup or when it gets sick. Cuddle with it while you watch television and try not to trip over it when you're doing everything else. Your partner should do an equal share of the work.

That will teach both of you what it means to be responsible for a living creature that is completely dependent on you. Talk about what you're learning and how that could translate into your relationship. Pay close attention to how the kitten behaves when it wants something or you do something it doesn't like. How do you react? How will you correct any of the kitten's behavior you don't like, such as scratching the furniture? All of that information can translate into your pet play time.

Fortunately, my Kitty is content with the cuddling and toy portions of all of that. I don't have to do any behavior modification and he's pretty good at communicating his wants/needs. He's also very good about following directions instead of getting underfoot like a real cat. Like any other relationship, the success or failure of my relationship with my Kitty comes down to communication. There's no one-size-fits-all road map. The success or failure of your relationship with your partner will depend on how well the two of you communicate with each other.

Being a kitten is not rocket science.  They meow.  They play with toys.  They lap milk.  They groom themselves.  They rub themselves against your leg when they want attention.

While I don't love real cats, I had a friend kitty I thought was adorable... I'll try to find his profile, and have you look, and maybe ask him questions.
There are lovely costumes, and basically she's on the floor on all fours, does what kitties do, as peppermint said, and you pet them. M

I can share a little of my experiences, i guess.

Decide what you both like about kittens, and kittyplay. What she feels cute in, and what makes her playful, and for you, what you like seeing and doing with her.

I completely disagree about observing and doing things because RL cats do it. Trying too hard doing things that don't appeal to either one of you, will turn you both off. It's not necessary. Do what you want instead.

Does it appeal to you both that kittens don't speak? Then decide for it. Does eating from a pet bowl appeal to you both? Kitty sleeping in a cat bed, or cage? Etc.

Some will go as far as the pet needing to be always naked, and using the kitty litter. Sure, cats do. Me, i got cold and the idea of peeing in a pan with gravel.. well... it didn't work for either me or the owner.

Keep it lighthearted and fun, that is my suggestion.

If they see you buy a ton of litter at the store, they might get snippy and ask if you have a bengal or siberian.
