Hiya, I googled any maybe I didn't use good enough key phrases, but I am looking for an answer to airport security and piercings.  I have a sweet pea /labret in my upper lip and am wondering if it will need to be removed each time I go through the peeping-thingies.  If it wills it of the peeping, I'd like to buy an acrylic labret, but if it wont, then I wont be bothered on buying one.. anyone know the rules?

Thanks!
~dancer

Best bet is to call the specific airports.

Apparently not but you might be required to show them if the alarm keeps going off. My friend has a couple of piercings and the alarm has never gone off and she flies regularly. But then I guess there is always the possibilty the alarm could go off and they want you to. I found security varies a lot from country to country.

I used to have quite a few various piercings, and I never had to take any of them out going through airport security.

i don't know of anyone ever having to take piercings out. i often wear clothes with metal pieces (like jeans) when traveling, and as long as i can clearly show what's causing the beep, i don't have much problem. it might depend on what countries you're traveling to, but i doubt this will be an issue. still, just to be safe, you can always call the airport, as la suggested.

I have travelled with 5 rings/studs in my ears, 2 rings on my hands and a belly ring and never set the metal detectors off.
