as a person who has had this procedure....the scarring all depends on the individual. how they heal after an injury... do they scar easily... do they keloid... or do they not. i had the procedure in 2004. the scars i have are visible though for the most part it would take more than a glance. the worst scarring is near the armpit, they tie a knot.... it kind of left a dimple. i had 14 lbs removed. i heal very well and seldom scar from minor scratches etc. these scars are now white, almost faded back to the color of my own skin. and yes, the scars are large. a quality doctor can provide a good stitch line. very thin. not as noticeable. her best bet is to get a free consult from several doctors. my gyno recommended this particular one. and she is excellent. it is an expensive surgery. so hopefully she has insurance and can get it covered through them. they dont always cover it. in 2004, it costs my insurance $22,500. that is not counting the $2,000 i paid in cash. good luck to her.

remove it and cut it down to proportion. i kept worrying when i bathed that the nipple would pop off. wonder what that phobia is called....

Tell her dumb ass to talk to a fucking doctor about it. Also, I believe I have heard that you shouldn't have the surgery if you want to keep the ability to breastfeed.

Every woman I know who had the surgery from young to old, was very happy. You find a great doctor and it worked out. The scarring was insignificant relative to the issues they had before.

I had a reduction. Went from an F cup to a D. (For a long time I was in a DD, but a recent bra fitting put me in a D). I had horrible neck and back pain, was on medicaid and the surgery was paid for. It's not considered cosmetic surgery when breast size impacts life. Sounds like her life is being impacted. Most insurance companies will pay for it. The scars aren't bad, though I don't have very much feeling in my nipples anymore (they had to be moved). At 26, she might consider the fact that she probably won't be able to breast feed when/if she has children post reduction. Of course, being as big as she is now, the likelihood of being able to breastfeed is slim, anyway. Anyway, scars. Light scaring on the underside of each breast, barely visible only a few later. The incisions went across the base of each breast then up the underside from the base to nipple. And there were two puncture marks near my armpits from where the doctor did some liposuction. Like I said, barely noticeable. Just a shade or two lighter than my normal skin tone.

ah yes...if she wants kids..id wait. a coworker had the surgery...then had a child... she is right back up to where she was. insurance wont pay again...at least hers wouldnt.

That's a very good point. Everyone keeps talking about ability to breast feed, which while I understand many women choose to do, my view is that formula is perfectly fine. After all, she is 26 now, she may not have children for another 10 years, why should she suffer for another ten years so can possibly breast feed her child, when there is a very good alternative? However, I (and I suspect many others) weren't thinking about her nicely reduced breasts engorging and becoming "unmanageable" again. I know I didn't breast feed (and probably couldn't have if I wanted to), but my breasts did increase two cup sizes. To the OP, Since you have been designated to accompany her to her appointment, you should make a list of questions that have been mentioned on this post. So far, my list would have included: How much scarring? Will my nipples need to be moved, and will they lose sensation because of that? Will a breast reduction prevent me from breastfeeding if and when I have a child? When I have a child, will my breasts experience growth/engorgement? Are you a certified plastic surgeon? Do you have a portfolio of previous patients so I can view your work? How can we make sure that my medical insurance covers the procedure? How long will I be hospitalized for the procedure? What is the expected recovery time? How much pain will I be in after the surgery and for how long should I expect to experience that pain? How long will I not be able to drive? Those are just a few off the top of my head.

Different doctors have different views on such things, so she should still inquire. I know because I live alone, a doctor will often keep me longer than others who have people to help them at home.

It also depends on what the insurance company will pay for and what the patient is capable of paying out of pocket.

Say no to breast reduction surgery. Anything over DD is a true collectible with great value. If used correctly there is a tremendous ROI as well (I bet).

She's maybe already done it, but if not it might be worth going to see a physical therapist to see about core-strengthening exercises. (I'm guessing there will be lots of abdominal exercises...) I'm a pretty firm believer that the best surgery is the one you don't have...
