I didn't always agree with him but, IMHO, there were no other movie critics worth reading.

RIP Roger and (somebody has to do it so it might as well be me) a big Thumbs Up on your career.

He was a terrific writer and reviewer, any time I was unsure about seeing a movie, I'd try to find his review on it.

He was an excellent critic, I can't think of anyone
better not even Kael. His love of movies and his knowledge
of them was apparent in everything he wrote. He showed
great courage in his health battles. I will miss him.

RIP, Roger you were one of the best. And a special thanks
for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. You and Russ like you and
Gene was good stuff.

While I might be the odd man out here. I find any movie critic to be someone who has too much time on their hands and not enough to do.

Yes Sure there are some STINKER movies out there. However I have a right to watch them and enjoy them or hate them at my choice.

There are some movies out there that have plot holes big enough to put an air craft carrier through, but I enjoy the movie. I don't need some grumpy old man who isn't a fan of sci-fi or action/adventure to tell me how bad the film is.

I mean while I don't care for the books and have never read them, I remember Dr. Drew talking about how horrible the 50 shades of grey books are and how sick they are because of bdsm. Yet there are thousands of women who have gotten a turn on from the books and want to know more. Dr. Drew is a horrible book critic

Since you seem to have missed it, Roger Ebert was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his writing about movies.

He saw approximately 500 movies a year and then wrote thoughtfully about each one.
He was a film journalist: viewing (and writing about) movies was his job.

I loved Siskel & Ebert reviews. I didn't have to agree with them but it was entertaining watching them disagree.
