People who don't find it funny aren't seeing it as a joke. *obvious statement of the day!* They're seeing it as you taking something massively important to them, their eternal salvation through a willing, perfect, sacrificial Christ, and making a mockery of it. The death and resurrection of Jesus is really, REALLY precious to some people and has deep emotional and spiritual significance for them. You compare what it is to them, eternal salvation by their God made into humble flesh, to a kink/sex party. You say yourself that you don't practice anything, so you likely don't understand the magnitude Easter carries with everyone. It's funny and lighthearted for some, and while I don't believe you meant to be offensive or tried to attack anyone, I can completely understand how others were offended.

I personally find it distasteful, but I'm not a fan of religious jokes in general because they can genuinely hurt others by degrading something they live their life by. God (& Christians) can take a joke, but like any other humor, just because it's funny to person A doesn't mean it won't be insulting to person B, and a certain amount of flack is to be expected with jokes like this. At least now you know where to NOT post similar jokes :P

That is a good point. I am a Christian, so of course the sacrifice of Christ is important to me. I think the reason I tend to chuckle at things like that joke is because A) for me, personally, it doesn't change the importance and B) I grew up with so many hyper sensitive, legalistic Christians who had an apoplexy over things like Scooby Doo that I kind of rebel against being overly sensitive now

Sometimes I wish Exodus had had the commandment "Thou shalt lighten up."

*laughs* Had god asked me I definitely would've told him he needed that one. I also would've said something like...

"Dude, I know it seems implausible but trust me on this. You're definitely going to need to spell it out to folks that you have a robust self-image and a fully functional sense of humor."
