Sometimes, the best way to see an issue, is to see it through eyes you disagree with.

Is Tyler jailed, or missing?

Safely in the bosom of her family...

Level -> RE: Free the boobies (4/7/2013 12:14:28 PM)

Ahhhhhh..... [:D]

Well, a topless jihad is one I can support... let's hope no boobs try to hurt her.

vincentML -> RE: Free the boobies (4/7/2013 2:16:28 PM)

I am a little confused by the article. There is the sense that she is protesting honor killings. If that is the case is the manner of her protest more outrageous than the object of her protest? Would love some clarification. Am I wrong in thinking the opinon writer has his values ass backwards?

Level -> RE: Free the boobies (4/7/2013 2:49:38 PM)

The article thinks the harlot-like behaviour is bringing down Allah's wrath.

We can't be concerned with that though, even if they stone her. Gotta clean up our own backyard, and shit.

She's protesting honor killings. In a weird, twisted way, those nutjobs are far more offended by a woman's breasts than by women being killed for ridiculous honor reasons.

There's a lot of fucked-up people over there.

We can be concerned but do we have the means to police every nutjob group in the world? And do we as an individual nation have that responsibility?

A most astonishing paragraph from the opinion piece. The writer fails to see the tragic irony of his own pov:

Amina Tyler, a young Tunisian woman, decided to call for her rights to reveal her skin, and this was brought about by posting her topless pictures on facebook, with obscenities written across her chest and stomach; that her body is not the source of anyone’s honor. Well, sure, but does it really ask for something so graphic? Why go topless to prove your point? The main reason was to hit the Salafists and rightly so, the expected response was immediate when she was declared to have caused an epidemic and hence, sentenced to be stoned.

A very brave, young woman imo.

No, we can't, I was being sarcastic, and I didn't mean to aim it at you. I do think that sort of thing should be dragged into the light, if nothing else.

vincentML -> RE: Free the boobies (4/7/2013 3:58:17 PM)

[:D] Sorry. My sarcasm detector is not working too well tonight. We have no disagrement here.

Raising awareness and donating to organizations like Amnesty International isn't useless, it might get you called a racist by someone around here though.

Yeah, that's the source of my sarcasm [:D]

Great point - TY. I 101% misunderstood relevant to this. However, Islamaphobic commentary from him....... Ive seen several posts with similar verbiage about the ME. I just declined to respond, I am shy. I think he should address it though. I am confident he is capable of doing so as well.

I am opposed to governments who do what numerous (not all) Islamic governments do to their own subjects. I've been told that the UAE and Indonesia are Islamic governments that are reasonable.

But look, fella, I'm a Westerner through and through. When the GOP candidates consistently show a lack of empathy for raped women, it's a major issue over here and called a "war on women", and rightly so. When another country will brutally beat a raped woman, it makes me outraged.

I'm aware of no other governments that mistreat their own women as horribly as the worse Islamic ones. If you can provide any examples, please do. Although NK does treat its own citizens pretty horribly...

I think the fear some (tens - 100 + million) Americans have of persians/arabs (ISLAM) is very real. If we did some trend scraping on twitter or social net analysis on.... well pick a network. We could prove it. While I do not have a study on the tip of my tongue I bet pew research or other pollsters have this data. Time for sleep now, we can do that tomorrow.

But, that is unnecessary as it is fairly obvious. Possibly not with Mr.Dark, we will have to wait. Generally speaking it is very real. Not fear in a piss your pants way....... But in a "they will do me harm if we do not kill them first, the government does not promote mass surveillance or do X & X. Just because islamaphobia and islamaphobic people are real does not mean it is justifiable.

You have me wrong. I've been friends with numerous Arab-Americans and Iranian-Americans. I have no issue with them, and have picked up a few odd words of Farsi and Arabic. I do have issues with countries that keep publicizing their hope for Israel's destruction, as well as their hopes that they will bring down the US.

Under Reza Pahlavi, Iran was modernizing quickly, and women had rights. I knew a couple of women that came to the US to study engineering and pharmacy, which they intended to use in Iran once their education was over. When Khameini came into power, they as well as thousands of young and promising men and women, decided to stay in the US. Due to that, and to the horrific fatalities suffered by the young men in the Iran-Iraq conflict, Iran lost the flower of their youth, and is run by the leftovers.

I'm just dying to know how you, of all people, picked up a stalker, Steve. [;)]

Beats hell out of me. It could be my rugged good looks, my winning personality, my massive intellect, my amazing sense of humor, my incisive mind - who knows?

Seriously, I've been in P&R for years now. I'm way overdue for one.

thezeppo -> RE: Free the boobies (4/8/2013 2:44:23 AM)

I'm going to bang my Orientalism/Imperialism drum again, but I think its important to look at the root causes of how extremists are able to ascend to power in middle-Eastern countries. Not sucking on any balls here; fundamentalists of any religion are bad news to say the least. I wouldn't say it is fucked up people so much as a fucked up culture - fucked up by the greedy, greedy, West. I'm being very general here because the link isn't working for me, so I can't be specific about the situation.

Steven: Definitely all of the above, but mostly the beard. It's a fairly mighty beard.

MAINEiacMISTRESS -> RE: Free the boobies (4/8/2013 3:53:43 AM)

Yes, I think it's the beard.
