How many people actually like eating rabbit?
I've had a few, I can't find a way to cook them
that actually makes them appetising...

I usually pride myself of being able to grow to
enjoy foods I didn't like at first.

Does anyone here eat rabbit regularly?

I wouldn't say regularly but it is my go to dish at my favorite french restaurant.

The best preperations are the loin sauteed and the legs braised.

Awwww, rabbits LOVE to be held on their back like that, the babies nurse on their backs underneath Mum's belly, and putting them on their back sort of hypnotizes them into a sleepy submissive state. I used to raise them commercially as a teen/college for the restaurant industry and restaurants as far away as NY and CT bought them, although I also had a sideline of pet breeds as well. I made quite a successful business of it. Flemish Giants aren't as good eating as the cobby breeds like Californians and New Zealands due to the larger bone size to meat ratio, but they usually make good therapy pets due to their more passive nature. The smaller breeds are hyper as hell.

Eating, I used to have them on a regular basis. If cooked properly domestic rabbit is tender and moist white meat yet lacks the greasiness of chicken. Similar to chicken in texture and flavor, with just a hint of a different aftertaste that makes you go, "Hmmmmm that chicken tasted different," (perhaps due to the grass-pellets- in their diet). I've never eaten WILD rabbit before, but I've heard it's a whole other animal with a gamey flavor due to their more demanding lives.

Oh, all the rabbits I've had have been wild caught,
they have a very strong taste, I don't really know
if you can get farmed rabbit around here.

It's a shame because I've been told it used to be a
pretty common food around here in the olden days.

Been a while since I've been in oz, more than 20 years, but isn't the whole continent still over run by rabbits?

You could say that

I'm pretty sure thats the main reason the rabbit
industry tanked over here. The gov released
various viruses into the wild rabbit population to
try and keep the numbers down...

We still have a lot of rabbits everywhere...
But now they are infectious and sickly.

Not all of them are, but the ones with tularemia are easy enough to spot and terminate. When I was in Ft. Sill, at least once a week we had deep-fried rabbit from a local farm. Very good meal, heartier that chicken.

I've only eaten farmed rabbit. Tends to be low in fat so not good for frying, comes out too dry. Better braised or in stew.

Bunnies are the 3rd most popular companion animal in the US, and I have 9. I love bunnies...to cuddle and play with not to eat. Bunnies make awesome loving funny entertaining housepets, can be spayed and neutered (thank god!) and mine are litter box trained.

Oh and there is no difference between a pet bunny and a meat rabbit other than circumstance. :( No such thing as farmed rabbit versus wild versus pet, they are all the same with the exception of what breed of bunny they are. 2 of my loves were sold as meat rabbits til I rescued them.

Not quite true. The rabbits kept for pets and farmed for meat are members of the species Oryctolagus cuniculus or European rabbit. The wild rabbits seen in the USA are various species of the genus Sylvilagus.

I wish that were true but as a bunny rescuer and an AR person all breeds and types of bunnies are bred for meat and also for pets. Cottontails are wild bunnies but all other breeds are used interchangeably for meat and pets and also snake food and it's sad. So yes you are sort of right that cottontails are not kept for pets or meat but all other species and breeds are.

At first I thought he was saying "go pee-pees."

Used to say that to a dog I had in a condo. Basically trained her to go on command. Service dogs are trained "You'd better go now." I was hoping to see the rabbit piss and mess the human's pants. Why anyone would make such a video - bunny pissing on command - was beyond me, but I figured "Hey. It's the 'net." LOL!

Then I was disappointed to figure out he was saying "Go sleep-ies."
