Jones, Beck, Limbaugh and the various reactionaries on this thread are intentionally misinterpreting her words. What she is clearly saying is that we have to stop treating children as the property and sole responsibility of their parents and take responsibility for them as a community. This is so obvious and irrefutable, Ken, you ought not to even diginify the right wing prattle with a response. I'd like to think that, but it doesn't fit. She could easily have made the point that you are suggesting she intended without the political rhetoric. And frankly, if she really believed what you claim, instead of what she actually said, there are few communities anywhere more in need of hearing it than the deeply racist, violent, and self-destructive communities in our inner cities. But that's not her bag. Instead, Melissa Harris-Perry prefers to address audiences like the one at the Campain for America's Future, promoting her theme of Racist America. Post 911, she says, a new version of what America typically needs emerged, and that is a racial enemy. Americans in part identify who we are, and who deserves what, through our notions of whiteness, and of the racial enemies who are the non-whites. ~YouTube Presumably part of the problem she sees with our educational system today, despite the amount of money we invest, is that American children aren't learning this. K. Are you saying that isn't what happened? How many brown people have been languishing in gitmo for no reason at all for more almost 10 years? What about all the freaking out about muslims? How many republicans have called for laws banning sharia in the US, like somehow the 1st amendment doesn't exist anymore?
