Ewwww . . . just how do they accomplish that?

How about teaching the Civil War without talking about Lincoln.
I had a co-worker with a 4 year degree who upon reading the 2nd admendment commented "the Constitution can't say that".
Another co-worker with a degree from a different school was irate because I left the phrase "wall of seperation between church and state" out of the 1st.

You think it is widespread in public school curricula to ignore Lincoln?

How do you generalize your friend's ignorance about the 2nd Amendment to "Public schools cultivate ignorance?" Seems to me I hear a lot of people more or less quoting the 2nd.

I look at the First Amendment from time to time and I have never seen the phrase "wall of seperation between church and state." Where do you see it?

You don't support your accusation very well. Sorry.

I think what he is saying is that phrase is not in there and his friend thought it was. Thus his friend's ignorance

*I meant to say that you don't want your tax dollars to help FEED poor kids in school? That was clearly a mistype.I'm sure you already knew what I meant.

He should never have gotten out of high school without knowing better. When I was in public school we learned these things.

It isn't this speaks to the ignorance with which he escaped high school and college.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Nope, Bama, he's right - the word wall is not in there.

You don't read very well.

Did you know that some states use texbooks that teach that nukes were first used in the Korean War?

When I went back to college in 2001 I was surrounded by people who could not even write a complete sentance.

Again when I was in high school (public school) they would never even have become seniors, let alone graduate.
It is not public schools that I and others oppose but the fact that it is quite possible to graduate and be totally ignorant.

We want to make schools better but just throwing money at them, some of the best funded schools do the worst jobs.

Both the right and left want public schools to work we just think there are different ways to get there.

We insist that you are wrong, you insist that we are evil. And once again you are wrong.

Thats what I said read my statement , not the reply.
He insisted it was and critisized me for not putting it in.
It comes from a letter written by Jefferson over 2 decades after the fact.

The public shcool system is in the business of brainwashing and definitely NOT edcuating.
Evolution is a prime example among huderds. A defunct theory that had been disproven for decades and yet they still push this nonsense.
When the public school sytem was first devised, it had a set criteria that it was to meet and evaluated after 25 years.
It has NEVER met even that intial required criteria and yet we keep wasting billions of dollars on it to help an insane liberal cause.

Really? Can you support that statement taking into account comparable student cohorts?

Which public school system are you referring to? There are fifty different state systems. Some states were still territories when the first public schools were constructed.

erieangel -> RE: All Your Kids Belong To Us. (4/19/2013 9:41:37 PM)

We can thank Bush for all that "teaching to the test" nonsense.

BTW, my son was encouraged to drop out of high school; his reading skills and test scores were bringing the schools overall scores down. 3 years later he was diagnosed with dyslexia and after some therapy was able to teach himself to read enough to pass the GED after 3 weeks in classes.

My niece was also encouraged to drop out of high school for the same low test score reasons. She refused.

The best example is as always D C. they spend the most money on a systemwhere their billboards (for the school system) have misspelled words )not as a joke)

There are good public school systems.

We have three within 25 miles of me.

All have about the same funding.

One is very good.

One forgot that Lincoln was envolved in the Civil War and in some classes had socialized grading (everybody got the same grade regardless of performance)

The other is really bad.

The difference isn't funding, it is management.

It is management we need to fix.

Joint effort Bush and Ted Kennedy but no child left behind is absurd.

When my son was in the class with socialized grading we pulled him out for private school.
We would have much rather spent the money on other things.
The school "lost" his records till after the deadline to get them to the private school.
As you might suspect he was one of the kids bringing the grades up getting the rest of his team good grades in the afternoon clases and running away from the rest of the class in the morning classes.

The first step toward improving education would be to repeal no child left behind I think we agree on that.
It doesn't matter who got it in we need to get it out.

It was well intentioned but we all know what road is paved with good intentions.

Please, God, tell me you have proof of that in writing. Please. If you don't, you are missing out on a fantastic way to improving those schools. For educators to insinuate that the best choice of action is for low scoring kids to drop out, is some of the worst methods of improvement ever. Whoever came up with those options, thought they were good and just, and sent them, should be fired, with extreme prejudice.

Is it only the management? Is there any impact from the socio-economics of the neighborhoods? Are the students equivalent school to school?

What precisely do you mean may I ask that one school forgot that Lincoln was involved in the CW?

Sorry to ask so many questions but your statements seem so generalized.
