So a guy with a pencil beat out the estimated 50 million guns in Texas? I need to go to store and pick me up a box of #2s.[:D]

How big was the knife? Doubt he was using a Jim Bowie.

None yet, thankfully, but four are in critical condition in the hospital.

Reports are it was an exacto.

I have a few of those, they are useful, was it an #11 blade?

Question for the gun-nutia......

Would you be willing to tackle someone,or even think about it, if you knew they had a gun?

Doubt it.

How hard would you have to think about attacking with a knife if you didn't know whether or not the intended victim(s) or surrounding people were carrying a gun?

The idea of being in hand to hand bothers me more if they have a knife.

FunCouple5280 -> RE: At least 11 hurt in Texas College stabbings (4/9/2013 6:38:59 PM)

This is like manna for the NRA. A week ago had they said, 'if you ban guns, there will just be mass stabbings instead,' they would have been laughed off the stage....Now they can use the words mass stabbing with a straight face and have credibility.

Admittedly, a knife is far less lethal than a gun in the hands of an idiot. A navy seal, well that's a different story. But this brings up the important element behind all these 'mass attacks' here in the US, what the fuck are we doing here to create these psychos?!?!?!??!?!

Really this illustrates the big difference between the US and other nations. We have a bunch of mentally imbalanced mother fuckers that have either been created or are not being dealt with properly. Anyone willing to go on a stabbing spree, would not be inhibited by whatever weapons ban you put into effect.

If no one dies, that will be a blessing. Unfortunately, because all this guy did was assault some people, Texas can't do what they do best....Strap him down and send him to hell. You know this douche will likely have a shot at seeing daylight again, and that is a major miscarriage of justice if there ever was one..

DarkSteven -> RE: At least 11 hurt in Texas College stabbings (4/9/2013 6:41:08 PM)

I've seen exacto knives. If someone attacked with one, there's no way they could get 14 people. Something's very wrong here.

It had credibility before that. Machete and knife attacks have been documented before in countries that do not allow guns.

I know but in the heat of the gun control debate people would have been dismissive toward the term. Now there is something recent and grand to point to.

midmichiganguy -> RE: At least 11 hurt in Texas College stabbings (4/9/2013 6:59:41 PM)

Yes, I would and I have. Call it the Marine in me and the years of training I have under my belt but unless its a head shot or a center mass shot from a trained shooter than there is very little immediate chance of me being killed. Especially if I am a moving target determined to close in with my attacker. However, if in the process of fighting/getting shot/etc. I manage to delay or stop the shooter until someone else either intervenes or the authorities arrive then I have done something of merit. But that is me and since I cannot run away with my knees all I can do is resolve to fight and I would rather go down swinging or with my fingers hooked in the eye sockets than take a bullet in the back fleeing. Better to fight and refuse to be a victim than to flight and face my ancestors with shame in my eyes.

There have been other similar recent events. On the same day that Sandy Hook happened, 22 students in China were stabbed.

Lucylastic -> RE: At least 11 hurt in Texas College stabbings (4/9/2013 7:25:01 PM)

violence will never end...Im glad no one died....
the victims hopefully get to go home....with their families.... like the children did in China..
had he been armed with a gun.... another sandy hook occurance wouldnt change the NRAs minds anyway.
BTW is Texas a gun free zone??[8D]

I agree, it's a great thing that there are no deaths, and that the victims will recover and be able to still be with their friends and families.

Texas as a state is not a gun-free zone, but the campus (as are most college campuses) was.

I agree that another Sandy Hook (although this would have been more comparable to Virginia Tech or Northern Illinois, as examples of shootings on college campuses) wouldn't change the NRA's mind. They believe that they're right, so why should it? Would you change your mind if you believed that you were right on a matter of principle, even if every second person you spoke with disagreed with you?

I won't say that a student or professor with a gun would have prevented this from happening. But it could have, right? And would that have made the situation measurably more dangerous if the stabber had had a gun as well?

Lucylastic -> RE: At least 11 hurt in Texas College stabbings (4/9/2013 8:30:55 PM)

I have actually changed my mind on guns...not to a great extent...but I have learned and adapted with information Ive sought out.
