Sounds like a very well intentioned effort, but falls so short on the delivery. I think people are being a little tough on them.

I can give due credit for good effort. They are hardly secretary of state or defense, I don't believe it was the initiation of love and peace treaty talks amongst Americans of all ethnicities. M

I think that, unfortunately, there are people on both sides who do not desire a dialogue because they make too much money fomenting problems and taking advantage of 'incidents'.
Paisley and Cool J will be attacked from both sides for this for all the wrong reasons.
Some people don't want peace because conflict is just too damn profitable.

To summarize something I heard NPR yesterday, Interracial music is at best cheesy like black or white and ebony and ivory, and rarely works musically. Sure the intent may be good and the song may spark some discussion, but in the end it will end up on the heap of musical losers and be forgotten soon.

I don't want to discard the possibility that something born from the heart and soul, would always end up in useless pile. Sparking a conversation on something so important, is worthwhile, IMO. M

A panel? So we can continue the discussion within the narrow little lines of what we are, and are not, allowed to say? Why the FUCK would musicians have to abandon their art, and play someone elses stupid game by being on a "panel?"

I don't care for 90% of rap, and I dislike country even more. Want interracial music? Check out Killswitch Engage. Big, black R&B pipes, booming out the lyrics over some serious angry white dude metal.

It's called free speech, and I wish them all the best with their efforts (even if I'll never listen to it). If the race pimps don't like where that leads, they can go straight to hell.

Interesting theory when the two songs you give as examples most definitely have not ended up there, and both were by the very unforgettable Michael Jackson, with the former being a duet with SIR (as in knighted by the queen of England) Paul McCartney. Could you pick two less forgettable songs?

Brad is an interesting artist, deeper than the usual hat act. Like Clint Eastwood, he makes 3 or 4 formulaic crowd pleasers so he can send a message in the next one.

At first I was afraid that the only 'dialogue' that this song would open was another flood of Confederate 'heritage'/battle flag revisionist propaganda. But I guess that offers one more chance to rebut those myths with facts, and maybe people will quit falling for them someday.

Musically, it feels contrived.

I imagine they are significantly more progessive thinkers than you for making the song in the first place, and expressing a good faith attempt at understanding each other. Hostile as you are, why would anyone ever need to have a conversation, or reach out to decrease ignorance about one another.

BTF, when you start talking about telling artists they shouldn't express themselves in their medium, or move outside the acceptable paramaters of what can and cannot be said, you are damn right you are going to experience some hostility from my end. You cannot imagine the contempt I hold for anyone who would suggest such nonsense.

As for your assumptions about my views, it's beautifully ironic that you should mention ignorance in the next sentence.

I would love to see more of this, and less of a lot of the racial divisions in the world.

I can think of many "interracial"songs, that work musically.

Singer Howard Jones left the band last year, with health issues, but is reported to be involved with a new project. The further his influence on heavy metal vocal style goes, the happier I will be.

The publicity isn't going to hurt, but I think there was a genuine desire to kick down some barriers to communication, and let the conversation flow down some different channels.
