FR I don't ask for it immediately, but I will generally ask for it within about 10 messages (while also including a "I understand you may not be ready for this yet, and that's fine, but if you want to contact me on Yahoo, my username is ********). What's the appeal? The conversation is a little more real-time and flowing than exchanging cmail, and without requiring me to devote all of my attention to the conversation. I can watch TV or Netflix while having the conversation, for instance. That way I don't feel like I wasted my time if the conversation breaks down in short order. And I almost always have my computer next to me anyway, since it's a laptop, so I'm not doing anything special. Then again, I'm 25. I've spent the last 10 years or so looking at computer screens for 10+ hours a day. I'm used to it. People from previous generations haven't done that, and it might feel like more of a time commitment to them.
