www.collarme.com will immediately terminate any account which it believes, in its sole discretion, is transmitting or is otherwise connected with any SPAM or other unsolicited bulk email. In addition, because damages are often difficult to quantify, if actual damages cannot be reasonably calculated then You agree to pay www.collarme.com liquidated damages of five-dollars ($5.00) for each piece of SPAM or unsolicited bulk email transmitted from or otherwise connected with Your account, otherwise You agree to pay www.collarme.com’s actual damages, to the extent such actual damages can be reasonably calculated, unless otherwise specified in this Agreement or the SITE’s SPAM Policy.

if this is the policy, why are more and more scammers online with fake profiles......is anyone moderating the actual website?

myotherself -> RE: spam (4/14/2013 5:01:22 AM)

There are a handful of volunteer mods who look after the site.

In addition, there is an automated system whereby if you come across a scammer profile you can report it.

thezeppo -> RE: spam (4/14/2013 5:06:28 AM)

You are probably going to have to be more specific about what a fake profile entails. I'm not convinced that spam and scam are quite as interchangeable as you are suggesting in this instance.

ETA: Sorry, I've misread the original post. I think probably the only way to stop scammers joining up would be to have a verification process so someone could check over every person that joins. That would be more than a full time job though and as Myotherself says the mods are volunteer only. Its not a perfect system by any means, but unless someone has enough money to employ a full moderation team then it is necessarily reactive in its focus. There is a lot of information about common scams available through the site, but ultimately we all have to exercise our own judgement.

Where did you get this? Can you provide a link? I've never heard of cm assessing fines, nor would they ever be able to collect.

Is this an existing policy, or it it your proposal what the policy should be?

OsideGirl -> RE: spam (4/14/2013 8:13:21 AM)

Feel free to volunteer to be a Mod. They are short staffed.

There is an automated monitor feature on this site to report things that you feel should be reported; spammers and scammers (which are two different things by the way) are some of the things that can be reported. If you read the TOS of this site in a complete manner, then you'd have seen that blacklisting is also banned, and yet you blacklist in your profile. I used the automated feature to report your TOS violations - hopefully others will too since it's frustrating, don't you think, for people to be on this site and use it however they like without paying attention to the rules?

There are other moderators outside of the reporting system, as was mentioned, they are volunteers and the site is rather extensive.

This is what happens when you only read a part or include some of the information; you managed somehow or other to omit rather relevant information such as:

Although federal law allows the dissemination of unsolicited bulk email under certain tightly regulated conditions, We have elected to impose a stricter, total SPAM ban policy, for all affiliates and promoters of this website. This means that Affiliates are prohibited from engaging in any bulk email promotions to disseminate their profiles or any other information about www.collarchat.com, regardless of how the recipient email addresses are acquired, generated or obtained. This also means that use of opt-in, double opt-in, or any form of email address recipient list is likewise prohibited, regardless of whether such activities are otherwise permitted by state or federal law. ...

...In short, if You are sending a message to a recipient who does not know You in some capacity, You may not send any information about us to them. If You are posting an advertisement somewhere that has Our COMPANY information in it, that advertisement must be “on topic” and properly listed.

In other words:
One can not send spam about the site, either to individuals or other websites.

Emphasis: bolding, underlining, color and size changes are mine.

Context is everything.[;)]

Yes, that is a part of the spam policy. Lizi is completely right that spam is a completely different situation than scam attempts.

Here's My question back to you, OP. What are you doing about it when you receive unsolicited mail that is actually spam? Are you hitting that nice little "mark as spam and delete" button when spam arrives in your email? Are you paying attention when you receive a message with the red header that says 'This person has triggered the spam filter'?

Or, was this just a creative way for you to decide that the site should prohibit people who mail you with relocation cost requests and so on?

littlewonder -> RE: spam (4/14/2013 1:14:40 PM)

Dude, it's a free site.

If you don't like it, it's not like you're paying for it or anything.

Just log off and delete your account.
