It was certainly a tragedy...but Boston boo hoo. We've lost in excess of 5,000 military.men and women. Not too mention yhe injuries in a NEEDLESS war! (I love snd support our troops!) Every other day there are teports of a troop lost and hardly.a word.or.prayer for.them. Yet Boston occurs and a hundrrd or so at peril. Lets not forget our heros in a needless position. And if you.think its not needless...you hwve been.snooked.by.our.prrss and politions.
God bless all the innocence nt victims and their.families!!!

One type of horror or horrific act/situation doesn't negate the other. To think that because something that just happened and shocks people, causing them to respond, means that they don't find other things equally important is rather unfair of you. Many of us have family in the military and support them, often supporting many causes and speaking out.

Please don't distract from the painful and shocking situation people are reacting to by pointing out what you think is a flaw in how they respond to other things, when you cannot know what has been posted on these forums, in journals and outside this site.

We are not forgetting.

I know darlin. It can be very frustrating in various ways and situations in life. I've been known to see one thing and not something else, in my upset or concerns. Sometimes I have to take my own advice. lol

OK, bro. I'm going to clue you in on a little something.

Signing up for the military has the realization that goes with it that you may be called to put your life on the line for your country. When you sign those recruitment papers, you know it's part of the deal. You are volunteering to put yourself in harm's way for (hopefully) the greater good. Nobody is more aware of this than those who are in the military and the families of those military members.

The runners and spectators at the Boston Marathon didn't sign up for that. They were innocent civilians. They didn't volunteer to be targets or body parts.

In My opinion, there is a difference.

From one with a strong military family background, I have been reminded more than once that those of us who choose to serve and their families know what the risks and sacrifices may be and accept them both knowingly and willingly. To call their sacrifice that of a victim is to dishonor what they have given freely for those that cannot fight. I would never do a service member such a slap in the face as to do that. I accept their gift with humility and the appropriate and deep grief for the loss of their lives, wholeness, and what their families also endure because of it all.

I also mourn the senselessness of events such as this bombing in Boston. These are people who never woke up yesterday morning thinking that they would experience something like this. They were getting ready to run, possibly for the first time, cheer for family and friends, brought their kids to have a fun day out. And then BOOM. And BOOM again. And life will not be the same. Someone willfully took away these people's innoocence and sense of security. That saddens me beyong words as well.

Now we need our police and maybe even our military. We need them to make sure this doesn't happen ever again. Some more lives may be lost to try to protect us and that I will mourn them as well. I see the Iraqi orphans, the Haitian families who lost everything, and on the list goes and seeing the loss of life and human suffering both here and abroad is devestating. It all matters.

Thank you for seeing others views and realizing maybe it was not the best post to make.

An "I am sorry," can usually go a long way here with those that have been around awhile.

Be ready, even though you say you are sorry, some will still come on and flame you. A very thick skin will now come in handy.

I don't recall who said it (think it was Lady Pact), but it was flawlessly stated (and now of course, I'll fuck it up...but it went something like this):

Terrorism is the attempt to make policy via violence. Absent a claim of responsibility, that cannot happen. If, on the other hand, the idea is to scare little old ladies in Des Monies so they will demand further concessions from the bill of rights...

I think you can see where that is headed. Let's keep in mind that bombs are real easy to make. And that there is ample opportunity to make a real big one, if that is what is wanted, without much expense. I think this event was a demonstration, as distinct from an attack. A reason to keep the endless war rolling.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. But don't worry, big brother will protect you.

The callousness of these kind of posts kills me. Just because a city, country is mourning for lives lost and irrevocably changed due to a cowardly act of terrorism (done by an organization or individual) doesn't mean they've forgotten about what happens around the world.

For christ sake an 8 year old lost his life waiting to hug and congratulate his father at the finish line. Dozens of people lost one or more limbs. One person had 40 carpenter nails removed from their body. Why is it not acceptable to mourn and sympathize? Their lives and our community will be forever changed.

My friend took this photo at the community vigil for Martin that we attended this evening. I was lucky enough to know this amazing young man and his spirit will be forever imprinted on my heart.

Others have made the point clearly about the military and the differences with civilians, especially children, nuff said. As far as this being the work of the government trying to cow people into giving their rights to feel protected, I feel sorry for anyone who could say something like that. I am the last person to hold the government up to being angels, or doing the right thing, there have been a lot of fucked up things the government did a times, like testing germ warfare exposure by letting loose flu virus in the NYC subways and seeing what happens, or deliberately not treating black men with syphillis to see what happened to them. That said, saying that 'the govn'ment' would do something like this sickens me, as screwed up as it is, that kind of paranoid, delusional fantasy is like those saying the WTC was a setup, deliberately blown down and so forth.

Hate to tell you, but it is far more likely that this was the work of some right wing wackjob protesting the government then the government itself. Remember that Oklahoma City was pulled off by two right wing, whack job types who thought they were fighting for freedom, too, and killed 173 men, women and children.....I don't know who did this, but I would surely believe it was some Nat Turner diary type then the government itself.

Yes it was wrong and had bad timing. The board that made me really like the internet specifically made it impossible to delete posts. An apology has been made. That shows more character than deleting it.

That being said:

I found out today that one of mine was hurt.

If you are a religious type you don't want to pray for the person who was hurt. You want to pray that the law gets him before I do. My system of justice has no appeals and there is exactly 0% recidivism rate, unless you believe in reincarnation.

People who kill women and children give up their right to be called "people." They simply become sick animals. Back on the farm we knew how to deal with sick animals.

I agree with you, although one thing about this and another thread on this made me wonder if many of us have somehow become immune or numb to these tragedies and catastrophic events. I don't think that it means that people are insensitive, but it seems more people have become accustomed to tragedies - at least from the viewpoint of seeing them on TV or reading about them, but still somewhat safe and insulated. Even I might feel a tad guilty, sitting here safe and sound, while others are going through this kind of shit.

There's all kinds of wild speculation about who did this, and I'm not sure if that's very helpful either.

I suppose everyone has their ways of dealing with these things. I've even seen it in my own family, when a relative dies, there are some who might react in a pissed-off manner and say a lot rude and insensitive things. I tend to cut them a little slack, especially if they're under duress, angry, upset - perhaps in denial, too. People mourn in rather odd ways, sometimes displaying behavior that might seem inexplicable.
