It does take someone who has some experience with the whip. This statement is very true. I have been a long fan of these whips and did lots of research about them before taking the plunge and experiencing it. I had 50 strokes, most of them developed immediate welts but none ever broke the skin. The pain from the lashes is different from other whips and floggers I've felt. For me, it felt like a more complex pain, containing sting, burning and also a sort of icey feel too :-) At about stroke 35, I was really starting to feel it (was hanging from my bonds i think) but was allowed to recover (of course!) and the remaining ones were a little more spaced apart but still strong! I was never pushed too far, never received a stroke in a dangerous place (mid-riff, head, wrap-around etc) so I had full trust. Go for it but maybe try a taster first!
