hairpullinggal -> opinion on CORSETS please! (4/17/2013 2:29:35 AM)

Hello ..
I am interested in CORSETS. From the whale bone styles to waist training uses.

Where can I purchase, try on, and compare styles? Any and all suggestions 4 me are very much appreciated

Google corsets - as for trying on, IDK, again, google and look for local brick and mortar retailers, even Utah should have one or Two, probably in the larger cities..

I love corsets and hope to make a few eventually, but not all corsets are created equal, there are a lot of nuances that make them more or less comfortable, overall design, material, seam placement, etc. like shoes, I presume you would want to avoid pressure points.

I've watched several videos on corset making them, and it being a relatively popular fetish, there are both tutorials and reviews as well both custom and bulk retailers online.

The only tip I can pass on from what I have been told in relation to corsets is that it's a lot better to either make one yourself or to have one hand-tailored to you. Or if not, then 2 inches for general wearing and 4 inches to shape is the guideline I've heard repeated a few times. I'm looking around into getting my own as well.

I had a similar thread in "Off Topic" and got some good advice. Also, Lucylastic on here makes a line of corsets

For corsets I would definitely recommend shopping in real life and getting it fit to you. Otherwise, if this is impossible, if you're looking for any shaping get no less than steel boned and at least 3 inches less than your waistband... I'd go a bit smaller yet, my corsets are a 38 and my waist is more like 44, and that gives wiggle room for you getting used to the compression. Frankly, a well fit corset provides far better support than a bra and getting an expensive custom fit one is well worth it if you've had back pain. I own three corsets, one of them was definitely not cheap, but it really helps on those days where my boobs are killing my back. That one was made by Felix and Kitty, apparently modeled from a back brace. The other ones came from some corset place I saw advertised on here, actually, somewhere in the advertising things board so a little hunting will probably find it. I can't remember offhand the name. They fit all right, more costume than supportive, but I don't like how the front does up as much.

If you can't find a brick and mortar store, I recommend checking out things like ren faires. I have a local (ish) corset making group that goes and does the kinky cons... and the anime and comic conventions! Also a good place to check out in real life, and maybe not a place you might think by default to check for corsets, but hey, small sellers gotta make it somewhere.

Thanks TMIK:) I dont actually make them, but I do sell a line of steel boned corsets, that are great quality for good prices. We dont have a bricks & mortar store, so fitting and adjustments are not possible. YET....
We do and have vended at several fet fairs and plan on doing more this year, but they will be within DC/MD/WV or toronto area, but you can email me if you have any questions:)

Regarding our line, we recommend to measure your waist and then remove 4 inches to find a shaping corset. For example a 44 inch waist would be a size 40 in our store...a 30 inch waist would be a size 26 etc.
The more bones it has, the more more firmly it will shape you. Go a size smaller rather than larger. With a much larger bust than waist ratio the lacing will be wider than the waist... All the corsets I sell have a six inch privacy panel for shaping it to your needs.. I wear a size 40 which closes to about two inches at the waist and a full six inches at my hips and bust.

Personally for custom corsets, if you can afford them, yes go for it.... nothing quite like having one specially made for you

If you are able to go to a fetish fair there are generally many corset dealers... If you are unable to make it there i do recommend Brute Force Leather, out of Pennsylvania. I have had about 3 of theirs and they wear well and last, I have one that is 9 years old and looks brand new still...
