Phone: is it still the case that calling blocked from a land line to a cell there is no way for the recipient to get the number?

I know that calling a landline blocked does little good - the recipient can just press *69 and get the number.

Webcam: can you Scype and/or whatever other methods of being on webcam anonymously?

I know that an IP address is just like caller ID.

Also I don't know how secure that is. If other people can hack in.

I don't know your phone questions because I imagine it's different where I'm from.

With Skype, though I've never tried, I'd imagine you could use one of the many online services which hide your IP address. Perhaps someone very dedicated could get around this, but it's probably not a realistic worry unless you're up to something that might make the FBI come looking for you.

I don't know whether people can hack in, but I'd say webcam is never secure because it's very very easy to record. So even if no one else is watching, there's no guarantee that the other person won't upload your show to a free porn site. And once it's on the internet, you have to assume it's there forever.

I know you can't dial *69 from my cell which is Virgin Mobile. Can't speak for Verizon. Of course, no one can call my landline if they block their number, because I set my phone up not to accept those calls.

As for Skype you can set up a dummy account and not use video.

I do understand people not wanting their number known initially. However, I have to wonder exactly why you are so fearful of your safety for conversing with people on phone or Skype. If someone wants you that badly, they can hack into your computer through any number of methods including simply tracing your email.

But I really doubt many people are going to do that, and if they are, they you should examine the choices you are making in potential friends/relationships.

Very little, from what I can see. OP is either fearful of phone playmates getting their address (didn't bother reading profile**), or is planning on doing something he/she doesn't want authorities being able to trace back. If OP offended, tough. In my last job we had to deal with internet/phone scams all the time. These are red-flag questions.

I have to ask.....why are you here on Collarme? You have no profile and most of your questions are more about you doing things to yourself and your phone. This is not a sarcastic question I am generally asking.

If you have a Skype phone number, you can choose to have it advertised with caller id or not.

Otherwise, a number shows that, if dialed, will get you an advertisement for Skype.

I've maintained a Skype number as a business number for about five years now.

If someone really wants to find you and know who you are, they will. It's not that difficult, no matter how much you think or try to cover yourself.

If you want to be anonymous, turn off the computer and throw it in the garbage. The same goes for your cell phone.

Well, little wonder, the phones even worse. Even if you have an unlisted number - and can you imagine if you don't? And even going to the groccery store does not seem safe, someone could follow you back. Credit cards are a nightmare, and checking accounts provide trackable points too. And speaking of the garbage you threw that commputer and cell phone (and probably now land line) into - can you imagine someone getting ahold of your bills, corrospondance, magizines, ect? Gonna need to shred everything, and even then, they'll still know what you ate, and where you shopped at. Better just to burn everything. Or, just live your life and assume you're really not that important to anyone but you. But don't do cam sex. It will make it to te internet.

Yeah...really, most people are really not that important. I tend to think that most people could give less than two shits who I am and what I'm doing lol. I don't really go out of my way to hide anything from others except at work because it's part of my job and I have to for safety's reasons. But even then I tend to not think twice about it. I just do the procedures so I can keep my job.

LOL! I'm starting to think that there are quite a few on here who live their lives the former way you described. Personally, I'm in the latter. But damn that was funny!

the former. I do not ever do anything that would cause authorities to have the slightest interest in me.

That is really true, for a person with computer skills. as soon as even an email goes out, it is there forever on some server or whatever.

I was thinking of for the average person.

Much like if someone REALLY wants to break into your house, they can, but we still use locks/alarm systems/other measures which does protect against the average opportunistic criminal

An IP address is not just like caller ID.

An IP address will generally reveal the approximate physical location of that computer but it will not give a street address or the like.
