Where are the so called tolerant Muslims we are always hearing about but never seeing.

LOVE does not conquer all.

An old friend of mine just married a muslim woman. They're both very, very happy. He's a good man; she's a good woman. She loves him and he loves her. She wants to put flowers and patterned curtains in their house; he doesn't like flowers or patterns on his drapes . . . but I think they'll get past that disagreement.

It happens, Butch. People can transcend the lunacy of the ideologies - even the religious ideologies - in which they were brought up.

Myself: I could get past a woman's ideology, and even her taste in interior decor, so long as she were cute, bright, sparky; had a good sense of humour, and a pert and chiselled bum which she enjoyed being licked and bitten on occasion.

I ask for a lot in some ways; in other ways, very little indeed.

I hope that helps.

There *must* be heinous examples of how muslim/christian marriages have gone badly wrong.

Help Butch out here - can someone trawl Fux News Archives for shocking instances, however rare?

That is my point...here in the US these types of marriages may happen... people are free to change religion on a whim as well...but where else in the world beside western societies can a Muslim marry a Jew or Christian or change religion ? Can this happen in Iran...Afghanistan...Saudi Arabia...Egypt...where are the moderate tolerant billions of Muslims that are held up to us on every thread?

I am really not trying to turn this into a Muslim bashing thread …But… time after time we see these stories of Muslim bigotry and STILL when mentioned there can be no serious discussion without being called a bigot in return.

All you get are examples of other religions abuses of human rights as if somehow this is an excuse for Muslims. Or… we are told Islam is a religion of peace and the fringe fanatics don’t represent the majority.

Well I would like to know a country where Muslims are the majority where it is common practice for Muslims to marry outside of their religion or change religion freely.

There weren't any surrounding the church. And, that's not a shocker at all. The ones that are tolerant would not have surrounded the church. How many Muslims didn't surround the church?

If you take a very liberal guesstimation of how many Egyptian Muslims are adult males, you could guess 10%. With over 19M people in the Cairo metro area, and a stated 90% of all Egyptians being Muslim, you get well over a million Egyptian Muslim males in the Cairo metro area. Were there that many people protesting? If not, perhaps you might want to count some of them as the tolerant Muslims?

Butch, the bottom line for me is that the major religions of the world are steeped in authoritarianism. There are crazed Christians, Muslims and others who demand that their "flocks" think and act in a certain way. Fortunately, a lot of their followers are apathetic.

There's nothing like apathy. It's the most tremendous starting-point on the planet and lots of "Christian" and "Muslim" people are deeply infected with it.

I love apathetic people. They tend to be more alive.

OK, Wants.

But I have to say, I don't get you. Despite some of my former posts: I don't think you're an idiot. Yet you make your points look bad by the way you write. Why do you do that? You are not addressing teenagers; you are addressing adults. Most here aren't even in their twenties, never mind their teens. Nobody here is going to be swayed by your lingo. Why do you do it? You are wasting what you say!

Just block wants. I did the second or third time I saw the misspellings, poor grammar and adolescent jingoism.
