ORIGINAL: Level He even provided links where a couple of the artists responded to being on the list, they were bemused more than anything Hmmm, that IS interesting. Let's be honest here, lyrics are rarely accidental, nor are they usually "birthed" in a sterile bubble. I'm really not sure I buy their protestations of innocence. As a writer I can honestly say that unless I deliberately hide it, my belief system, my ideals and life experiences, my ethical standards, are all going to peep out of my writing like the lace edge of a too-long slip. Not everyone will notice but it'll definitely be showing for those who look for it. Now, I take into consideration that there is room for subjective interpretation...but still...some of those lyrics would be hard to argue against. Very interesting. What's your take on that? Out of the 100 examples, I saw some that could be conjecture on the article writer's part, some that were definitely open to various interpretations, and I imagine there are a number of artists who show an occasional "conservative" thought, while being very liberal on most things. I would guess that the rock world is probably roughly the same as the movie industry, in terms of the percentage of conservatives versus liberals. Arnold, Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck, Mel Gipson, Robert Duvall, Bo Derek, etc, are either conservatives, or not liberals lol, but the list of liberal Hollywood would go on quite longer, I think. So, yeah, there are some rockers that don't get a hard-on when they look at a tree .
