caitlyn -> Not getting enough S&M in your life? (6/24/2006 10:48:51 AM)

My foster dad, is a 45 year old businessman with a six figure income, that listens to death metal music. Yesterday he and a friend he played college football with, took me to San Antonio to see the Unholy Alliance Tour ... floor seats, of course.

Floor seats is a bit misleading, as there were no actual seats involved. Six hours on my feet. I now know what foot paddling feels like.

I've seen mosh pits, or so I thought. You haven't actually seen mosh pits, until you have seen them at a show like this. It was run for your fucking life scarey ... not the place for a 100 pound girl.

They try to rip your cloths off, and I stupidly wore a tank top. While it did actually manage to stay on, it now fits a 300 pound man. I ended up buying a $45 t-shirt with a skull and some saying about blood and death on it, and did I mention it has pentagrams on the sleeve. Can't wait to wear that to church tomorrow.

Now, on to the bands.

Thine Eyes Bleed, made Mine Ears Hurt. They were too loud. On the positive side, I won't have to curl my eyelashes again.

Children of Bodom is like these 12 year old guys from Finland. They were too loud but had a cute bass player, that may have been of legal age.

Mastadon was actually pretty good, but looked like the homeless. CD sales are obviously not good, because they have been wearing the same clothes for three years.

Lamb of God was also pretty good, but kept encouraging the crowd to mosh and throw things. I have something in my hair that I don't think will ever come out.

Slayer was the headliner, and I don't know if they were good or not, because by the time they came on, I was praying that someone would actually take a life, so the cops would throw everyone out and I could go back to the Mariotte.

If you aren't getting enough S&M in your life, I highly recommend the Unholy alliance Tour. You will see lots of S's, and get M'd more then you ever dreamed.

LOL caitlyn, I'm glad you made it out in one piece. Slayer is the only one of those I'd care to see, but wouldn't go to a show due to a lot of the problems you mentioned. Makes ya want to go to a nice Air Supply show, huh? [;)]

She was being facetious in saying that it was an excruciating intense experience that rivals any hot S&M scene.

your dad sounds like a very interesting character.

*hugs* all of us have to have one shitty concert experience at one point in our lives...

i have never heard of ANY of those bands, but i don't dip too much into death metal, either.

maybe you could invite him to a concert with music YOU like? a mutual sharing? (not to get back at him, or anything, just to, you know, try to open him up to some stuff you can stand to listen to.)

glad you made it out in one piece :)

AHHHHHHHHH, the good ol days.  I remember The Monsters of Rock Tour with Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Alice In Chains opening.  That was a KILLER SHOW.  AHHHHHHH to be young again.

Now that's a show I would have dearly loved to have seen. Or the Clash of the Titans tour, with all of the above bands, except for Metallica. Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies both filled the bill quite nicely, I imagine.

God, that tour sounds like my husband's wet dream come true.  Not up my alley at all.  I'm glad you survived relatively intact... physically at least.  I hear the psychological scars lessen over time if you regularly bang your head up against a wall.  [;)]

Wow!  What an experience.  Thank you for sharing with us caitlyn.
Glad you had your dad and his friend with you to act as body-guards.
Remember to bring a couple pairs of ear plugs with you when you
go to concerts, the kind used for heavy equipment operators.

I love going to concerts of all kinds but standing only 4 foot 10 inches tall
means I will never get into a mosh pit!

Blessed Be,

Vendaval
