quote:
ORIGINAL: graceadieu The entire civil service, minus a few political appointees, is supposed to be non-partisan. Career civil servants work under Democratic and Republican administrations alike, and should be able to be professional and not let their personal political affiliations get in the way of doing their job. That's the real problem I have with this whole story. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that quasi-political groups trying to register as charitable entities are given a careful look, but it should be an equal opportunity careful look. I agree with this. Moreover, even though I am a big fan of President Obama, I think his administration should take whatever they have coming for this fuckup. Just because I support the administration does not mean that I will sit here and spout excuses, justifications, or spin when they do something wrong. Sweeping scandals under the rug does not serve the public good. We are fortunate to live in a country where it is our constitutional right to criticize the government without being sanctioned. We all should exercise that right whether or not "our side" is in power and without regard to whatever political victory we fear "the other side" will obtain. We would have a much better government that way.
