Newbie Night - 11/11/2004 9:57:11 AM

We're having a newbie night in central London on the 15th December, this one specifically for female submissives.

We had a very successful night last month for male subs, but we feel this should be different, and that a different approach is needed.

My question for female subs: What would you like to do/see/participate in on a newbie night?? How would you like the evening to go??

What a great idea. I think it would be good to have some experienced Dom/subs do a scene so newbies know what could happen during public scening. On the light side, of course. Maybe get a few volunteers from newbies for light play. Have a meet and greet with experienced lifestylers so newbies could ask questions.

There will be afew of us there, talking to the subs, showing toys, maybe demonstrating.
what I want to know from newbie female subs, is what exactly would be helpful to you, would you feel intimadated, how could we encourage you to go to help you into the scene, we're not asking you to strip & play, that is totally tour choice, its more of a munch with demos.

I think a discussion of safety would be very important.

We have a bunch of great experinced Femdoms and Doms, and we're looking to do a mix of social/informative and play/demo type things.

We do have a c ouple of experienced submissive ladies, who will be happy to chat about the various aspects of subbing from a personal point of view - that went down really well with the male subs last time.

i agree with proudsub, safety is a huge issue with us newbies, and use of safewords, when to use them etc. Also there are so many different interests and what i mean by that is, fisting, enema's, breath deprivation, neddle play etc.
it would be very helpful to know what some of the play entails (i know some of them are quite obvious) but to let them know that perhaps a future Master may want to punish/pleasure them in other ways besides whipping/spanking. I guess what i couldve probably said in one sentence is education . i still see myself as a newbie, and i want to learn....
thats why i spend so much time reading from this site and books.

im sure some will feel uncomfortable asking questions directly, but if there was a "box" where questions could be submitted anon. and read out loud to the audience and answered, it would probably help those who hadnt thought of that question, or others who had the same question, but were too shy to submit it etc.
i wish you luck with your night and hope it is a success

I'm thinking you could let some of them practise by letting each participant read out one entry, assuming there are enough. Not too cruel I dont think ;)

It's a lovely idea having a newbie night, I wish you all the best of luck with it.

Offering my advice strictly from my experience with newbies.

Get rid of the Dominants. Have submissives hold it. Don't have a single Dominant at the meeting. New subs get very quiet when around someone claiming to be Dominant. They sure don't want to ask any questions. Sort of a sub support group. Or even a newbie sub support group.
It has worked for me.

MissP,

The suggestion of leaving the dominants out of it is a good one but by the same token, If you could find a "panel"
of Dominants who's slaves/subs/bottoms were running the night for the newbies, you could then bring in the dominants
for a discussion. Open, honest and from the hip.

By establishing a relationship of leadership or friendship among submissives then approaching the subject by saying.
Master <Blank> is the owner of <blank>. Tonight he/she has graciously offered to answer any questions you might have
about meeting for the first time, what to expect, even how to set up safe calls, ect........

You could have the "meeting" as a panel or as a 'gathering' where everyone is just mingling.

Just this girl's two cents. Thanks for allowing her to share.

Thanks for all your ideas - I'm going to raise them all next time we get together

A quick update on the event itself: We've decided to make it a mixed night, so both male and female submissives are welcome

thank you stormi, you would be most welcome

as for the subs holding the night, we have a couple of subs who go & informally talk/chat to people there, we are not there to dictate the night, we want it as relaxed & friendly as possible

I've tried this in the past as well. The submissives are still quite reserved. They will ask a question or two but not nearly as many as they will when only submissives.

Plus, they tend to take whatever the Dominant says as gospel and they are not allowed to ask more questions even when they don't understand. Just my experience.

I agree (also from experience) totally with Gloria. Especially if the group is one with strict protocol. If submissives are required to call all dominant's sir or ma'am, they would naturally be more unsure about asking questions....

A compromise would be to possibly have a panel, but not for the meetings themselves. It should be anonymous, where the submissves ask for general opinions on specific questions from a dominant point of view, answered in writing after the meeting by the panel, then reviewed and discussed during a future meeting....

no, its not like that at all, its a friendly informal/non protocol step into the scene, some of the male subs at the last event asked how they appoach a Dom/me, how to word an email etc, it's their night, the Dom/mes & subs/slaves are there to help them, give them advice, their oppinions, in the knowledge they still need to follow their own paths.
