Now I know you have a special place in your heart for teabaggers right next to the spot you reserve for any airport bathroom activities, but even you have to admit that ignorance is not limited to teaparty members.

Not according to his past posts

It's always teabagger this, teabagger that...

Look, variable rates so they can plunge the next generation into bankruptcy and make it impossible to get an education, probably in the hope that they will be feebleminded enough to vote for teabaggers.

Creating the next generation of welfare patients.

well from what I have heard low income families tend to vote democrat so if that's their plan I don't hold out much hope for it.

Well, the way I heard it, if they can keep them uneducated, they can train them to be teabaggers.

yep

Tell that to all the millions of poor white southerners who would vote for Satan if he had an (R) after his name.

Actually, if you look, there is an excellent correlation between the states with the highest average education level and the tendancy to vote for a Democrat so ron may be on to something with his "uneducated voter R rant'

Speaking about "Smarter Solutions for Students", I read an article a while ago about American students going to other countries for their education and it costing at least half less than what they would pay in the US..

eta- This is the article I was referring to..
"McGill offered him a full undergraduate university education for what it would have cost for just one year at G.W.
“When the financial packages came in, it was a no-brainer for me,” Andreasen said."

That's about as close to 100% incorrect as possible.  States with low income and poor educational systems almost invariably go for the R side.  Texas seems to recognize this as it is part of the party platform that "Critical Thinking Skills" should no longer be taught in the schools.  Indoctrinate them and have them march to your drummer.

The bottom 10 in the nation are Dallas.

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20100306-10-Dallas-ISD-high-schools-have-4415.ece

That is a ways off of having to explain Detroit and Chicago.

Really? you want to argue semantics because the last time I looked Detroit and Chicago were located in states, and both of them have piss poor public school systems.

This one's for ron... Funny, not one Texas school is listed in the 25 worse schools in the US.

Worse 100 schools in the US... Again, Dallas isn't listed, but Chicago made #1

Hmmm, looks like ABC has a beef with the Detroit pubic school system.

It's not semantics. It's a total lack of reading comprehension on your part.

I said STATES with poor educational systems tend to vote Republican
You mentioned 2 cities with poor educational performance.

If you'd like to see the difference in educational levels in nice graphical form by STATE, here is the link
http://www.topalli.com/blue/

Note the top 7 states and the bottom 7 states respectively.

That was an interesting bottom 25 schools list.
10 of the 25 were in 1 state. South Carolina.

Funny, worst schools?  in what way are they the worst?  Not according to any objective citation, a couple of fughazi sites in your first two. and the abc one is a little yellow journalism.  It wont quite cut it as realistic.

Yellow journalism? Bullshit. Some people in Michigan are praying for the day that Detroit falls into Lake St. Clair. It's been an albatross around our necks for decades. I grew up in the Grand Rapids area. Very conservative, good education system, and it's thriving. Detroit? Very liberal, $300+ million in debt, schools being closed en mas, parts of the area so full of crime that police won't even patrol them. So many people have left the area that entire neighborhoods are ghost towns.

As a matter of fact, I did read the article through. Did you?

From Wikipedia:

quote:

Yellow journalism, or the yellow press, is a type of journalism that presents little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead uses eye-catching headlines to sell more newspapers. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism. By extension, the term yellow journalism is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.

From the ABC news story:

quote:

Detroit has been participating in the NAEP test but this is the first time the city's individual results have been reported. Sixty-nine percent of Detroit children scored below basic level on fourth grade math and 77 percent of Detroit eighth graders scored below basic. The state appointed emergency financial manager Robert Bobb said no school district in the 40 year history of the test has ever registered such low number. “This is an abysmal situation,” he said. “Today is a sad day for the city of Detroit. It calls on all of us to express our outrage.” There were no measurable fourth graders at the advance level in math, 3 percent were proficient, 28 percent were basic. Among eighth graders, there were no measurable students at the advanced level, 4 percent were proficient and 18 percent were basic.

How do you find this to be "yellow journalism"? Because Robert Bobb used the word "abysmal"?

Granted, this report is quite old. Nonetheless, the situation hasn't improved much, if at all. Schools were still being closed as of last year. We have a new governor and he's appointed a new emergency manager. We can only hope he gets things turned around.

BTW...how long ago were you here and how long did you stay?

The high cost of education combined with the skewed wealth distribution / heavy tax burden on the middle class portends a growing gulf between the haves and have nots.

With our huge military expenditures thrown in, it is a full banana-republic recipe of economic development.

I'm not sure why subrob jerked the thread off the issue of student loans into the realm of primary and secondary education. The efficacy of primary and secondary education is most directly tied to the income levels of the people populating the the school districts.
