Status: offline 		It's the classic case of cognitive dissonance brought about by hypocrisy.

It's WRONG to run a background check on someone when they buy a gun.

It's RIGHT to drug test someone when they get benefits to feed their kids.

What was that their "Jesus" said about feeding hungry people and shit?

That's right. Republicans think Jesus should have been arrested for feeding hungry people.

Status: offline 		I don't have a problem with running background checks if someone wants to buy a gun. I also don't have a problem drug testing people who want welfare. They drug test you when you go to get a job, so why wouldn't they test you if you go to get welfare?

They already run a federal 4473 background check when you buy a gun, I say we start testing welfare recipients for drug use to even the playing field... Don't you agree Farg ole buddy?

This link was the first to pop up on a search for "illegal to feed the homeless" but does contain links to actual events....

To be honest, it's not that feeding the homeless is really illegal, but there are rules and regulations that have to be met to do so. So, if you don't get a permit and follow the rules, you can not legally feed the homeless.

Of course, the details not being served up along with the steaming plate (puns intended) of emotional rhetoric is par for the course for some posters.

Status: offline 		Whenever I'm told I have to take a drug test, I always say "Sure! What do you want me to test first?" For some reason, I never seem to get called back for a second interview...

I have no problem with background checks for any gun sale - public, private or at gun shows. I have no problem with drug testing for those receiving public assistance. Not that I expect you to answer this but would you support legislation that requires all of the above? Or are you just bitching to hear yourself bitch as usual? I think both ideas make sense but I am betting you are not willing to trade the latter for the former.

Jesus was picked up...and crucified. You see, feeding the starving masses makes one a little too popular for the powers that be. So, he had to go.

It 'happened' again like when Kennedy tried to 'help feed the poor' by confiscating the depleting federal reserve notes and replace them with much more steady treasury silver certificates.

He too...had to go.

To clarify, one has a presumption of innocence when buying a gun, one does not enjoy the same presumption of innocence where it concerns possible drug use.

You are a far greater threat to society say sitting behind a desk having gotten high last night then you are even possibly being a crazy, disturbed mofo...walking around with a gun.

Status: offline 		My only contribution is very similar to Caneman's; when I have had to submit to a urine test, I always say something like: "I should pass. I was up all night, studying"

Well, the other thing is I pull a page from Dice's playbook. If a nurse says something like: "I'll need a cup of urine", I say: "You want cream and sugar with dat, honey?"

Also, my signature line says it all.

Unless you work in one of the TDP's spelled out by the Supreme Court, there is no such requirement after the application stage of the hiring process.

Status: offline 		Not so much. If the job is a Testing Designated Position (involving carrying a gun, or other public safety issues), then that would be explained at the time of the offer.

But for most jobs, even a private employer who searches their employee's person for evidence of a crime needs to follow the Constitution.

If the reason for drug testing it because these people receive tax payers money, then all who receive that money should be tested as often as they want to test welfare recipients.

Isnt it amazing how politicians are always excluded from that list of drug testing?

Interesting that so many hospitals drug test not only for illegal drugs but for nicotine. Now I suppose you could tell them to go screw themselves when they ask for the sample, but I doubt you will get the job.

Status: offline 		Obviously the public safety condition already mentioned applies in public health jobs.

Since no one goes to jail for tobacco, the courts have upheld the testing of employees for smoking.
