Personally I think someone who could stand there and watch a woman be raped and/or murdered is a complete scum bag. That is however a moral argument. From a purely legal standpoint, you can't prosecute someone for not getting involved. I don't know if someone could be prosecuted for egging them on. I don't think so, but perhaps a case could be made. I also didn't think about just calling the police, shows where my head is at I guess.

Actually, some can be prosecuted for doing nothing. Mandatory reporters. The participants that night did not fall under that classification.

I suggest that we skip the trial, and place the people who committed the crime and those that watched the crime happen on a nice, tropical island, like the one in a sci fi movie I saw, cant remember the name, but convicts were placed on an island and left to survive by their own devices. Now granted, I would populate the island with large predatory cats and put salt water crocs in the streams and such.....

Don't be silly; abusive parents should be dealt with (removed from the home, imprisoned, whatever, as appropriate). BUT. Two parents, one of which is male, one of which is female, who are married to each other, and who each provide loving care for the little monsters is the best scenario; whether or not two promiscuous gay men who are good to/for children are better than a married hetero couple, both of whom are brutal meth addicts, one of whom is a child molester. You're proving my premise. As a (liberal) society, we refuse to uphold ideals, refuse to say that some things are just better.

There is no absolute proof that a two person family is better than one. There is no absolute proof that the "loving" family unit you described isnt abusive. There is no absolute proof that a single parent cant raise a child just as effectively as two... In other words.... even with all the psycho babble behind you.... its still just an opinion. One along the lines with the "curtain climber" generation.
