joether -> 51st State of America (6/8/2013 5:59:18 PM)

Just inside Colorado.

Just when I thought conservatives couldn't get ANYMORE cluster farked stupid/foolish, they try to do this....

Am I the only one that seriously wonders on the mental and emotional health of conservatives these days? There is some stuff over the years, performed by conservatives that keeps upping the bar on what is truly childish, junior high school-ish, stupid, unwise and just plain un-American? I think this is a 2013 contender right here....

In my experience political ideologues know no boundaries in their stupidity. Or, perhaps more accurately, they are not playing by the same rule book as I am. For me, concepts map back to reality in some measurable, observable way. For them it's more a matter of faith in their dogma. It's not that they are stupid. It's the exact same problem of trying to discuss fossil remains with a 5000 year creationist.

Am I the only one that seriously wonders on the mental and emotional health of conservatives these days?
Nope... Lots of libs like to do that. It's very quaint in a massively hypocritical way if you ask me. Pot, meet Kettle.

Some of us think the exact same thing of the liberals.

<--- voted for Obama first term. Told my wife to vote Obama 2nd term. Has voted almost completely down the democrat party line for almost 15 years.

"The governor and his Democrat colleagues in the statehouse have assaulted our way of life, and I don't blame these people one bit for feeling attacked and unrepresented by the leaders of our state."

Real0ne -> RE: 51st State of America (6/8/2013 6:27:17 PM)

what these peope do not realize is there is no legal remedy for them, which in and of itself is unlawful.

Fact is that states signed "unconscionable" contracts to become states and without full disclosure.

They have no remedy in court either.

we seen this all before, not identical but close enough for horse shoes!:

quote:

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection
and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

First and most importantly, even if they succeed to seceed from Colorado they won't automatically become a state. They will first have to apply for statehood with the federal government. Surely the feds in all their wisdom will not move quickly, likely saying something like, prove you are worthy of becoming a state. They do have guidelines on what it take to become a state (it's late and I don't feel like looking them up), so no doubt they will take the opportunity to flaunt that authority sine none of them (currently serving) has ever had the chance.

It's no dumber than Statehood for DC.

That's what I thought as well. So if Colorado for some reason let them seceed, then they wouldn't be part of the US at all, just some foreign entity smack dab in the middle of the US, right? No federal or state aid flowing into their new "country," no protection from the federal government for anything.

they cant, even though as I said that it is an unconscionable contract and they have no remedy which in itself is unlawful. otherwise its feudal, but we wont get into that since no one here seems to get it.

So sorry, but the UP in Michigan is going for the title of 51st State, Colorado will just have to settle for 52.

I think that they would first become a territory. Although I suppose we could look up how Vermont did it and a few other states to see how long it took for an idea.

Have you ever heard of Fort Sumter?

You have citizens in counties that feel that they are not being represented in the State Legislature. They are trying to rationally discuss options to fix this. These are people trying to AVOID a second Civil War. And you call it "cluster farked stupid/foolish, childish, junior high school-ish, stupid, unwise and just plain un-American" and wonder about their "mental and emotional health."

At what point do they start believing these kinds of comments and that this is the way they are perceived and take action based on that?

Yeah, why should all American citizens get actual representation in Congress? Why shouldn't Congress be able to directly meddle in the local affairs of 600,000 American citizens?

Why wouldn't the IRS allow it? They already vote in Presidential primaries and have delegates to the Big Two's Presidential Nomination Gatherings (wastes of money).

Real0ne -> RE: 51st State of America (6/9/2013 7:26:56 AM)

it would change their legal status. unless of course they want to bring them under the treasury, which of course would violate the constitution which is why they are chartered off shore in the first place.

Actually the IRS would probably not care since at present Puerto Rico residents don't pay any federal income tax.
