I read this book years ago. I have an internet copy, but I want something I can download, preferably to my kindle.

Gutenburg has nothing but old books, no current authors and NOT Lord Of The Flies.

So can anyone direct me to some of the free book sites that might actually having something more current to read, and where I can search for Lord of the Flies?

If it is on the internet, you potentially could convert the HTML to PDF, which Kindle can read, or look for a PDF version of it. I doubt Smashwords would have it......Amazon itself probably has it as an e-book, but I don't know how much it would be. It is pretty easy to bring the book into kindle in PDF format, you simply put it on the kindle device.

If you are unscrupulous, you could go to a bit torrent site, I would be surprised if it wasn't there, and get a pirated copy. I would hope by now it wouldn't be expensive on kindle, but you never know.

Lord of the Flies was published in 1954 so the copyright
is still held by the authors estate. The book is also still in
print meaning it is still being published so outside of a pirated
copy the only place you can probably get it for free is through
a library as an ebook or a hard copy. The books on Gutenberg
are books before 1930 or so that are in the public domain.
It will be awhile before Lord of the Flies is in the public domain.

The torrent that I use doesn't have it, I looked.

I did find it on "Open Library" but I can't figure out how to move it to my kindle even though it downloads in some Adobe PDF. The one my friend found me is a PDF, but I can't save it to my computer to transfer it over.

Obviously I can read it on the computer, but I would rather be able to read it on my kindle which is easier to do.

Winterapple,

Thanks so much the lesson on copyright law, however, I would be equally happy with lending libraries on line. I have trouble finding that type of stuff.

do you have amazon prime? You can borrow books from them if you do. I don't know whether they have Lord of the Flies though.

Now, if the lawsuit about eBook price fixing goes a decent way Amazon may come off the $9.99 price for the Kindle version. Rather silly when you can buy the paperback version for lest than $5.00.

I used to, but I don't anymore. And they don't have it in their library anyway, I just checked.

I am going to the library tomorrow, haven't been in quite a while. I want to find out about what ebooks they have.

Like I said, I did find it on OpenLibrary.com but I can't figure out how to transfer it to my kindle to read, although it seemed as though that option was available on the site.
