What say you?

Here's how Mr. Obama stacks up against more recent Presidents, if he keeps pace with 168 vacation days over eight years. President George W. Bush took all or part of 297 days at his Texas ranch. Bill Clinton took 174 days at Martha's Vineyard and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Ronald Reagan vacationed 349 days at his California ranch over eight years.

Personally, I dont believe any of them ever truly got a vacation.

No. If I had my druthers he'd be on vacation till the end of his term.

how many is too many?

pahunkboy -> RE: Does Obama take too many vacation? (6/13/2013 5:08:11 PM)

Any job I had- I would be fired if I took so many days off.

21 days a year for Obama, if he stays on that schedule. Many corporations and businesses grant that many days off for vacation, add in sick time and its even more.

Really? Most of my jobs started at 2 weeks and went to 3 weeks paid vacation per year after some number like 7 or 8 years. That's not counting sick days, holiday days, personal time off, sabbatical, and other ways that I got a paid day off.

I think he's probably taking somewhat less vacation than I did... at least in the later part of my career. He's at 3 weeks per year.

Lucylastic -> RE: Does Obama take too many vacation? (6/13/2013 5:14:38 PM)

how many do congress or senators get in a year.... he works weekends, he works overtime, hes on call 24/7
im not backing him, im asking how many is too many
168 over five years so far?
52 weekends is 104, national holidays, is how many four five?
two weeks vacation? one week? 120 days ish off, a year, for an average joe?
so over five years, 500 ish days.
so far... how many is too many?

I took the third answer because I really am unsure. I am going to write this post as if I am a true believer in American government.

I would hope that none of us would even try to say that our jobs carry the same amount of stress as POTUS. Sorry. There's no way most of us could even come close. This a person with (literally) the weight of the world on their shoulders. Have you ever seen the before and after photos even on one term presidents? The grey hair. The worry wrinkles.

I know I would never be dumb enough to run for that office.

Since it is such a stressful position, I would hope that we would care enough about his job performance to insist that he take as much vacation as possible. When you get right down to it, it can't possibly be that much when you think about the amount of time that goes into the job.

Now, unfortunately, I don't believe that federal officials are anything but worthless scumbags out to screw us, every chance they get so, I would just as soon they not waste more of my tax dollars on their vacations.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Ill buy that Mike//

President Obama and his family will be going to Africa later this month. But the trip won't be cheap; it's expected to cost American taxpayers $60 to $100 million, according to the Washington Post.

"When President Obama makes his first extended trip to sub-Saharan Africa later this month, the federal agencies charged with keeping him safe won’t be taking any chances. Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of emergency," reports the Post.

tazzygirl -> RE: Does Obama take too many vacation? (6/13/2013 5:31:05 PM)

You did see where the trip is cancelled, yes?

pahunkboy -> RE: Does Obama take too many vacation? (6/13/2013 5:35:14 PM)

I did not see that. I seen a safari was due to sniper team.. but not the trip.

Lucylastic -> RE: Does Obama take too many vacation? (6/13/2013 5:36:03 PM)

so are you upset about the number of days, or the cost?

the cost. I mean everyone is cutting back-right? We the public are taking cuts.

I was offered a job once in UAE where I was presented a 2-month vacation a year. One of my friends worked at that job for three or 4 yrs.

And then, they will pay for your air travel back and forth as well.

Obama will spend a night in Dakar, Senegal, two nights in Johannesburg, a night in Cape Town and one night in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Obama will hold bilateral meetings with each country’s leader and seek to forge stronger economic ties at a time when China is investing heavily in Africa. He also will highlight global health programs, including HIV/AIDS prevention.

so its not exactly a vacation eh

I'm not surprised this made The Weekly Standard, but I'm disappointed in The Washington Post. They know better.

As the Post's own article says clearly and repeatedly,

(a) This is not unprecedented. Presidential travel, regardless of who occupies the Oval Office, is always costly.
(b) Those costs are driven by the Secret Service, not the White House.
(c) Both the President and First Lady will be performing official duties.
(d) Other Presidents have brought family on overseas trips.

I fear the Post's repeated buyouts have drained the newsroom of folks with seasoned editorial judgment. Or maybe it was a slow news day and they needed to fill space. Either way, far from impressive.

Damn there goes my fun for the evening
