Airlia -> Help, please. Birthday gift for my partner? (6/15/2013 6:49:33 AM)

It will be my partner's birthday in a few weeks and he's requested I make him a drawing. I feel I'm skilled in this area. When I see something I can draw it accurately, but I do not know what to draw for him. I can't make up things in my mind and put it on paper because it won't look as nice. I like seeing something and then drawing.

He's been very kind to me and I want to put in the effort to give him a lovely drawing/painting. But of what?
If anything, he is a fan of masks, and romance.

Suggestions please?

What kind of masks?

Airlia -> RE: Help, please. Birthday gift for my partner? (6/15/2013 6:52:09 AM)

He likes renaissance types. Masquerade things.

Have you thought about going out, trying on such masks, taking a photo of yourself, then drawing that for him?

Airlia -> RE: Help, please. Birthday gift for my partner? (6/15/2013 6:58:01 AM)

I have thought about that, but finding those types of masks can be a bit difficult, seeing where I currently am at. It does sound like a nice idea, however.

And how exactly is this a BDSM related question?

Why don't you just go to Tumblr for ideas, since you are a fan.

Oh sexyred - you are encouraging a mob mentality attack with that comment. Shame on you! [:D]

Well, perhaps bdsm can be applied to the drawing.
Plus, I'd like to know what people would like to see in a drawing, seeing as though the relationship I am in is fully encompassing bdsm.
I want to know how I can apply this subject to the artwork.

Why can't you then find something beautiful to you, that moves you, and draw that?
That way you are sharing a piece of yourself.

Some of these include instructions on how to DIY a mask. All you need is the base mask form (most party shops, even craft stores sell them) then glue fabric, feathers, gems on it. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=slv8-&sz=all&va=masquerade+mask

Airlia -> RE: Help, please. Birthday gift for my partner? (6/15/2013 7:34:17 AM)

Well, I think it is because I haven't drawn in a long time. I'm really hoping that whatever it is that I draw can be based on something I know he likes that way he understands that it is specifically for him.

Thank you so much! Very helpful!

Buy a Mardi Gras mask and paint it for him.
Or better, buy His and hers, paint em, then find a way to incorporate into play.
That's an all win scenario there.

I have a feeling this will be a very cool gift.

Lots of great ideas here already. My one suggestion would be to see what kind of masks a costume rental shop in your area might have. Adult masquerade balls were big in my old hometown and our local store always had a good selection. You could rent or maybe even just borrow a mask, take a pic with you wearing it. And then draw that. Maybe even get a friend to put you in Masters fave tie while your in the mask for the drawing.

Again, very cool gift idea.

Where are you? Because I would imagine most costume shops will have masquerade masks on sale. Look up your local ones (both of the fancy-dress hire and the theatre suppliers type) and ask them over the phone if they have a selection. The ones you get from a proper theatrical supply will probably be more authentic and higher quality but may well be a little worn up close - nothing you can't fix in your drawing of course. You might also be able to hire one to draw since they are expensive to buy.

I know the one I'm wearing in my picture isn't particularly authentic, but I got a bunch of them (some much more elaborate) for just a couple of pounds each from a place in the mall that sold cheap jewellery. I wouldn't give the mask itself as a gift but perfect for basing your drawing on.

Other than that I don't have any more suggestions, since as you said, it will mean more if it's something he likes, and none of us know him.

Another thought (whether it works for you or not I don't know:), would be to take an erotic picture of yourself, maybe with a bondage theme, use a photo editing program to superimpose a mask on it, then from there draw from the picture. Though as others have said, if you can get/make masks for you and your partner and present that with the picture you drew for him, well, would even be better:).

Or you could draw a picture of him in a mask, a romanticized portrait of him. Or another thought, give him a certificate for a drawing (after maybe buying the masks/making the masks), and have him sit for you, to pose for you, to draw it, and then have the posing sessions lead into fun:).

There are a lot of possibilities here, it depends on him, of course. An erotic picture of you two together in a hot setting could be great, too:)

I think you should pop out of a cake for him.

I was in Pier One last month and I was surprised to find some renaissance style masquerade masks. They were a decent quality and ran $20 - $40. I don't go in big for that stuff but it is rare to find good quality, so I stopped and looked through to see if a design struck my fancy enough to buy as a present for my slave.

Here is a direct link to their masks. LINK I seem to remember a larger selection in the store. In particular, they were several red & gray ones I liked.

A possible source of inspiration:

Despite their name, they seem to focus on Indonesia.
