Found these recipes for cat treats on facebook. Posting them here because so many love our fur babies and worry about what they are eating. Soft Cat Treats- 1/2 a large carrot you can peel then grate Zucchini 1/4 cup grated and peeled Chopped alfalfa sprouts 1/2 a cup Chopped parsley very fine Some chicken stock about 1/8 cup Catnip dried or fresh 1/4 table spoon Preparation: Combine vegetables in a bowl. Put in your chicken stock and toss, sprinkle over with catnip and serve at room temperature. All the food that is over can be put in the fridge for about to 2-3 days. ______________________________________________________ Beefy Cat Treats Get some trimmed raw beef about 1/2 a cup Measure 3 tablespoons of broth (I find it best when you cook your own vegetables, just drain the water into a bowl and use this as broth) Cooked oatmeal about 2 table spoons Dried Barley Grass Powder (This can be found at your local Pet Shop or Supermarket) Mince one of your cats favorite vegetables, Such as 1 Carrot, (Believe it or not carrots are a favorite) Preparation: Cook the raw beef in just enough Vegetable or Beef broth to cover, low or medium heat. When the meat is cooked use a fork and mix the beef with the broth which it was cooked in. Put in the minced vegetable and the dried barley grass powder. Mix together making sure it has blended together well. Then add the oatmeal lastly to get the consistency that your fur baby likes. ______________________________________________________ Fishy Cat Treats 1 lb cod 1/2 cup instant potato flakes (more or less as needed) Directions: 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. 2 Puree fish and potato in food processor until it forms a play dough consistency. 3 Spread evenly into ungreased cake pan. 4 Bake for 20 minutes until fish is springy to the touch. 5 Here is the tricky part:. 6 Turn fish onto cooling rack I then put the cooling rack into a sided cookie sheet. Place another cookie sheet on top and then weigh it down (I use a cast iron pot) this will squeeze out the moisture and make it a semi moist treat. 7 Put this stack back into the oven for about 15 minutes. 8 Carefully pull everything out and let it cool all stack up 9 When cool, you can cut into bite-sized pieces. 10 Store in the fridge lasts about 1-2 weeks can be frozen for up to 2 months. ____________________________________________________ Turkey and Pumpkin Cat Treats Things You'll Need 1 cup minced cooked turkey 1/2 cup mashed cooked pumpkin 1 tablespoon oil 1 tablespoon kelp 2 eggs 1 tablespoon milk 3 tablespoons cottage cheese 2 tablespoons finely chopped alfalfa sprouts 1 pound ground turkey, chicken or beef 1/3 cup grated carrots 1/3 cup broccoli, chopped in blender 1/4 cup liver, pureed in blender 4 to 8 cat vitamin tablets, powdered (if using as a meal replacer) 1 Mix the minced turkey, mashed pumpkin, oil and kelp. 2 Roll into marble-size balls. 3 Give one treat to your cat. Store the rest in a resealable plastic bag in the refrigerator. ----Cheesy Munchies----- 4 Break two eggs into a bowl. Beat the eggs slightly until uniform in color. 5 Add milk, cottage cheese and alfalfa sprouts. Stir until mixed well. 6 Coat a nonstick frying pan with small amount of cooking oil or spray. Heat over medium heat. 7 Form the mixture into patties. Place patties into frying pan. Brown on both sides. 8 Chop patties into small, serving size pieces. Serve. Store leftovers in refrigerator. -----Complete Meal Cubes---- 9 Mix turkey, chicken or beef with the carrots, broccoli, liver and powdered vitamins in medium bowl until well blended. 10 Place mixture in ice cube trays. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze. 11 Remove from ice cube trays and place in resealable freezer bags when thoroughly frozen, at least eight hours. Return to freezer. 12 Remove a complete meal cube from the freezer bag. Thaw. Feed to your cat. __________________________________________________ Crunchy Tuna Cat Treats Makes about 3 dozen treats 1 (5 ounce) can tuna, no salt added and packed in water, drained 1 cup oat flour* 1 large egg 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 heaping tablespoon dried catnip *It’s easy to make your own oat flour. Simply grind old-fashioned oats in a spice grinder (or a super clean coffee grinder) until it is transformed into a light powder. There you have it — oat flour! 1. Place a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. 2. In the bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade attachment, combine drained tuna, oat flour, egg, olive oil and catnip. Blend until mixture is smooth. It will be thick but pliable and not terribly sticky. 3. Roll dough into 1/2 teaspoon balls and place on prepared cookie sheet. Use a skewer to press an X-shape into each cookie ball. 4. Bake cookies for 10 to 12 minutes until they are dried on top and slightly browned. Allow to cool completely before offering to your kitty. 5. Place treats in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to seven days. ___________________________________________________ Chewy Chicken Brown Rice Cat treat makes about 50 small treats 1 large egg 1 4-oz jar chicken and brown rice baby food (or something meaty which may include canned wet cat food) 1/4 cup parsley, coarsely chopped 2 teaspoons olive oil 2 tablespoons water 1 cup brown rice flour 1/2 cup cooked white (or brown) rice other things you might add other treats like : 1 tablespoon of catnip or a hearty tablespoon of extra wet cat food. Place a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together egg, baby food (or wet cat food), parsley, olive oil, and water. Add brown rice flour and cooked rice. Stir to incorporate. The mixture will be thick but spreadable. Spread mixture onto prepared baking sheet creating a rectangle that is about 1/3 of an inch thick. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from the oven. Let rest until cool enough to handle, then slice soft dough into bite-sized pieces. Return pieces to the oven to bake for another 8 minutes. Remove from the oven. Allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. I store my treats in the fridge just to be safe. ___________________________________________________ Tuna Treats for Cats 3 tablespoons egg whites, scrambled 6 ounces can tuna in water 1/4 cup cornmeal 1/2 cup whole wheat flour Directions: 1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Chop up the egg whites and mix with all the other ingredients, including the water from the tuna. 2 Press into a ball, then flatten the dough onto a greased cookie sheet. 3 Cut the dough into bite-size pieces for cats. Bake for 20 minutes; cool slightly. 4 Your cat will like these best served warm. _____________________________________________________ Italian Cat Treats 1/4 cup high-quality dry cat food 2 cups cooked ground beef, finely crumbled 1/4 cup grated carrot 1/2 cup canned grated parmesan cheese 1 large egg 1 tablespoon tomato paste Directions: 1 Preheat the oven to 350°F. 2 Put the cat food in a food processor or blender and grind to a coarse powder. I use my Magic Bullet. 3 In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients, mixing thoroughly. 4 Form the dough into marble-sized balls or create a large pancake-like object with the dough, flattening it out to an even ½” thickness. 5 Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the bottoms of the treats are golden brown. 6 Remove from the oven, let cool thoroughly. Break apart if necessary and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
