MistressOfGa -> Prayers Please (6/26/2006 8:09:38 PM)

Hello all,
I would like to ask that you keep my brother-in-law in your prayers. He was in a serious car accident and is in the hospital. He will be having surgery tomorrow. A car hit his truck from behind and pushed him into oncoming traffic. A 2 ton truck hit him head on. By the time it was all said and done, it was a 5 car accident. Please add him to your prayer list if you have one at church. Thanks everyone. <hugs>

He can have a touch from my soul, MistressOfGa.

Speedy recovery brother-in-law.  Be well.

SweetSarijane -> RE: Prayers Please (6/26/2006 8:29:54 PM)

I hope he gets well soon. Sorry he's been hurt. Thoughts and prayers going for him.

MistressOfGa -> RE: Prayers Please (6/26/2006 8:35:19 PM)

Thank you everyone. The doctors concentration has been on his leg, he broke his femur (The strongest bone in the human body) in two places. My sister held his head to give him some ice and her hand was covered in blood. Apparently he has a gash on the back of his head that was missed in all the confusion. He is in pretty bad shape :(

Being that I've worked in every area in the medical field involving trauma patients, I can tell you that he has a long and bumpy road ahead of him. The good news is that he made it all the way from the wreck to an ER and then to ICU/Trauma. That in itself has been known to be a miracle. Most people who make it that far end up pulling through.

After the struggle in ICU/Trauma which usually include anywhere from one to several surgeries, you'll be looking at intermediate care, in patient rehab, an out patient rehab facility, and then home rehab. He'll also be on pain managment therapy.

Assuming that there is no paralization nor severe brain damage, recovery time in being able to walk, work, and such again can take anywhere from three months to a year and a half. It all depends on pain managment, rehab, and attitude as he fights to have it all back.

If all goes well, that's what you, your brother, and family have to look forward to. It's good to know that there's a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end of this storm.

Best of luck in having it to turn out this way.

Thank you all so much. His surgery went well. It took longer than expected because they discovered that he had 5-6 breaks in his femur. They have placed a rod through it and it should heal nicely. They also discovered this morning that he has a fractured sternum. His optical bone is also broke. He is having severe problems with his right eye. I will keep you up to date. I just got home from the hospital and will be going back tomorrow. My sister hasnt left his side.

Not the best of situations, to be sure, but he's still with you, and that's something to be thankful for.  Please know he's in my thoughts, and I hope he recovers fully - and soon.

Thank you all again. Just an update. My sister called and said that they are doing surgery tomorrow on his right eye. He seems to not have any control over it. When he is talking to us, he is looking at us, but his right eye is just rolling. They are going to try and strengthen his optical bone under his eye to steady his eyeball.

Yes, we are very blessed that he is alive and has managed to keep his sense of humor. When he woke up, he looked at my sister and said "Honey, the airbag works, but the truck is broke" lol God bless him.

MistressOfGa -> RE: Prayers Please (6/28/2006 8:01:15 PM)

Hi everyone,
Well, my sister just called and his eye surgery went well. They had to rebuild his orbital bone so that his eye wouldnt "sink" into the socket. He is doing very well for the trauma that he has been through. Sis went and saw the truck today, she was freaked out. You can't really tell what kind of truck it is. Took pictures and started the documentation for insurance.

Thank you all for your continued support and emails on the other side. I appreciate them :)

SweetSarijane -> RE: Prayers Please (6/28/2006 8:48:12 PM)

Still praying for you and yours and please continue the updates. I hope he has a good and timely recovery. Hugs.
