Being that I've worked in every area in the medical field involving trauma patients, I can tell you that he has a long and bumpy road ahead of him. The good news is that he made it all the way from the wreck to an ER and then to ICU/Trauma. That in itself has been known to be a miracle. Most people who make it that far end up pulling through. After the struggle in ICU/Trauma which usually include anywhere from one to several surgeries, you'll be looking at intermediate care, in patient rehab, an out patient rehab facility, and then home rehab. He'll also be on pain managment therapy. Assuming that there is no paralization nor severe brain damage, recovery time in being able to walk, work, and such again can take anywhere from three months to a year and a half. It all depends on pain managment, rehab, and attitude as he fights to have it all back. If all goes well, that's what you, your brother, and family have to look forward to. It's good to know that there's a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end of this storm. Best of luck in having it to turn out this way.
