James Gandolfini, Sopranos Star, Dies at 51

James Gandolfini, the Emmy Award-winning actor who shot to fame on the HBO drama “The Sopranos” as Tony Soprano, a tough-talking, hard-living crime boss with a stolid exterior but a rich interior life, died on Wednesday. He was 51 years old.

Mr. Gandolfini’s death was confirmed by HBO. He was traveling in Rome, where he was on vacation and was scheduled to attend the Taormina Film Festival. A cause of death was not immediately announced; a press representative for HBO said that Mr. Gandolfini may have died from a heart attack, though other news reports said he died from a stroke.

The “Sopranos” actor appeared recently in “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.” He had been working on Fox Searchlight’s “Animal Rescue,” now in post-production, HBO limited series “Criminal Justice” as well as CBS show “Taxi 22.” He served as exec producer on docus “Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq” and “Wartorn: 1861-2010,” as well as on “Hemingway & Gellhorn.” ..."

I just found out. I am so sad, The Sopranos was one of the greatest shows ever and he was a fantastic actor. I think I have seen all his movies.

Rest in peace big guy.

My cat died at age six, now Gandofini is dead at 51. I'm shaking my head. The guy that handled Ralphie, evaded the feds, and survived his mother's borderline personality disorder is no more.

No, this was the fine actor who played that fictional character.

My lawyer died a few months ago at 51 too! It was a shock to everyone!
That's young 51.
They say those type of things happen in threes, hey, how old is Obama?

I have seen some articles that he had a 'mild' heart condition, and had been dealing with it for some time. However, a mild heart condition is usually easily dealt with.

He was a good actor, and though I was not a fan of the Sapronos, I have seen some of his other work.
