Actually, beyond the regular washing the outside one does when bathing, in this country women are taught that the vagina is wonderfully self cleaning and that douching can cause all kinds of issues including a variety of infections when the PH and flora and fauna get out of balance.
And no, women can not get infections from semen alone.
Angelika, what is your definition of an infection?
I kind of worded that badly:
I am not referring to STIs which are transmitted by bodily fluids.
If her infection involved itching, it could have been Candida (yeast).
BV can also cause itching.
Sperm can lower PH and make a woman more susceptible to that.
Trichomoniasis (a protozoan) can cause itching...which is a STI.
However, douching is not a preventative measure and washing outside with soap and water will not prevent those types of "infections".
