Is This New Dating App Taking Away Men's Privacy?
You could be on this hook-up rating app and not even know it.

http://www.nerve.com/love-sex/is-this-new-dating-app-taking-away-mens-privacy?fb_action_ids=138233899711516&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=288381481237582

Lulu, the new “rate him” app, allows its exclusively female users to access profiles of men they’re interested in through the information and photos that have been anonymously and secretly uploaded from Facebook by its other users. Users can review and rate men they've dated or know, while sourcing the opinions of other women about the men they've only just met at the bar. Later, they can share the reviews on their Facebook page.

Both cited as controversial and touted as the smart woman's little black book, Lulu is a strictly women-only app designed for “intelligent” women looking to inform themselves about potential dates, a digital, boundless "girl talk" session. With one huge caveat: men aren't allowed to use Lulu. Men who have been reviewed are neither informed about their posting nor allowed to access their profiles to see what women have said about them. And no, they can't rate any women themselves. It's seemingly the first quasi-Orwellian, privacy-skirting dating app, and it's making men rightfully uncomfortable, even outraged.

If this sounds like a Sex-and-the-City-ed beta version of Hot or Not, with nods to Yelp, and the ill-conceived proto-Facebook, Facemash, you’d be on the right track. The only thing not stoking the fire of lawsuits that would conceivably be aimed at Lulu is the fact that its content retains a level of tameness due to its impersonality. The “detailed” information it offers about men is concentrated down to a drop-list of hashtags, multiple choice answers, and numerical ratings based on criteria like appearance, humor, and first kiss (cue gags).

I am totally against it.

There is so much wrong with it, I feel like vomiting.

Being that this is exactly what Facebook originally was for, I don't find it all that odd or anything. And I don't see it as a privacy issue. If you put yourself on the net, you have agreed that you willingly give away your privacy. There's tons of sites where people's photos are posted without them knowing about it.....the pictures of Walmart people, youtube vids of people doing stuff on the streets that someone may find fun or weird or whatever, etc...

But yeah....I have a feeling Zuckerberg is thinking "I did that over 10 years ago dude. Stop stealing my inventions".

I actually laughed when I saw it. Like I want a bunch of other women determining the attributes of a man they passed up?

Is there anything else about it that rubs you the wrong way, Tazz?

Oh the whole thing rubs me the wrong way. But, honestly, the ages are no doubt late teens to late 20's for the women. If people arent smart enough to realize that I could log in and simply go through any list of men, making whatever comments I choose without ever having met these men, then that really tells you about the intelligence of such women signing up for that site.

And, as for the men listed on there, would any really want a woman who listens to the rants of other women who may or may not have met him or who may have dumped him... or been dumped by him? Personally, I would consider it a blessing for those men to be on that site. Its a perfect weeding tool of the type of women a man shouldnt want in his life.

Aside from the issues I have with that app from the perspective that you guys have thrown out there (I'm with tazzy, it's a perfect weeding tool), there's definitely the chance for legal action. That app sounds like a breeding ground for defamation, doesn't it? And even if men aren't supposed to use it, you know that men will get access to it, even if it's by lying or hacking, or there will be women who will let them in on what's being said about them.

I'm wondering how they prove that a person registering is female. Are they asking for verification? Because if not, then I'd assume all the op ratings were by guys rating themselves.
