Moonlightmaddnes -> Anyone know how to get pen ink out of car upholstery (6/24/2013 9:33:56 AM)

My daughter drew on the back of the middle seat with an ink pen. >.< I am thinking goo gone would damage the upholstery. Not sure what got into that child she has not drawn things other then paper since she was a preschooler. Perhaps it is having a new baby sister but you would think 8 is a little too old to be pulling this crap. Well any ideas on what can get the ink out?

Hairspray and blot with a tissue.

I second the hairspray trick. We used it when I worked in retail. You'll probably want to use an upholstery spot shampoo once the ink is all out. Make sure the ink is gone first though.

If the hairspray trick doesn't work, use brake cleaner, but be prepared to clean it out fast before it bleaches the dyes out. At the lot, we'd use it with the vacuum running. Spray, vaccum, repeat as needed. Just a little at a time, don't try to get it all at once. Use a shop-vac or one of the high-volume ones at the car wash. And before anyone jumps in and says it'll cause an explosion/fire, the fuel:air mixture won't be sufficient in small quantities.

I have a shop vac, I will have to buy some brake cleaner though.

I have never used it myself, but OxiClean is supposed to get out ink stains. http://www.washing-machine-wizard.com/oxi-clean-for-ink-stains.html

Last week, my little one got a hold of a pen and decided to make the ottoman the victim of her artistic expression. Fortunately, we took the scotchgard option - our first time ever. A little water, and it all came out. I will never, from this moment on, turn down the scotchgard option!

I hope it comes out for you!

Brake fluid cleaner (same shit as dry cleaning fluid).

Don't buy the shit that saves whales....get the shit that smells nasty.

Works every time...doesn't damage furniture.

When she was 2 and my oldest was 14 he left a magic marker out and she found it. She made a custom design on his wall, TV and dresser. Thankfully goo gone worked cause she drew all over his room.
