I'm having a problem with a couple of colored bead stretch bracelets I bought. If I wear them for very long, I see color on my wrists when I remove them. Although some of the color comes off with scrubbing, my skin must be stained because it takes a couple of days for the rest to fade. Have any of you ever experienced this? Do you think applying a coat of clear fingernail polish would fix the problem?

It should, but a lacquer spray from the hobby store would be a better bet

The stains are likely to be caused by sweat.

Yes, a coating ought to stop the problem.

I don't wear jewelry because of allergic reactions to nickle and other alloys. If I want to wear earrings, I have to go for at least 18k gold.

I had the same thought. Better than scrubbing colors off of you every time you wear them.

As an engineer, I want to know what the chemical reaction is which is causing the discoloration. What material are the beads? If they're metal, what kind of metal?

I agree, buy better jewelry, 18k gold, platinum, solid silver.
