I'm thinking of building something like this ----> http://www.extremerestraints.com/sex-furniture_167/stockade-with-optional-fucking-rod_165.html except make it out of wood instead of metal. Has anyone ever built anything like this that would be able to give me some advice?

Also, I'm just kind of curious to hear about other home made bondage toys

The metal will hold up a lot longer. A strong person could easily break wood dowels and either escape or damage themselves. Wood splinters under stress and creates weak spots, further increasing the risk of the rig failing or injuring someone.

It's best to make it out of metal. You'd need some basic metal working tools like a grinder and a drill and bit set strong enough for poking holes into steel. Those types of things aren't all that expensive.

Why wood? From what I can see, there's an adjustible square tubular beam (SHS or square hollow section) underneath the model which have arms attached for wrist, ankle and neck anchoring points. Plus another point at the back for butt attachments or whatever....

Making it from steel tube means it'll be much stronger than wood and much more compact. And any adjustment points will be easier to engineer.

As for my own designs, I became frustrated with my old wooden bondage 'A' frame because it was too bulky and heavy for storage away from vanilla eyes and didn't accommodate much of a range in fem/sub size. Was waaaay too big for one girl in particular and a bit too small for another I had.

So I got all creative and made my own adjustible and fold-up 'A' frame - out of tubular steel. Doesn't quite have that old-world dungeon-style intimidation factor of the old wooden frame but it works a treat. And I prefer modern furnishings anyway...

Focus.

I was thinking of using a strong hardwood like walnut as the material, and I would sand it down and put a finisher on it of course.

I don't really have access to metal working tools and I really like the appearance of wooden furniture better.
I won't build it until I know exactly what I'm doing, but I'm really curious about doing this.

It's not weakness with any particular hardwood that'll cause you problems, it'll be the joints. Use screws rather than nails as well as "liquid nails" type glue. And you'll probably still find you'll need to add corner braces later as the joints weaken from stress.

None of which will be nearly as strong as the welded joints of steel tube. The tube will flex more than the hardwood, but any half decent weld won't let go. And re the tube flexing, that's a matter of not using too light a grade - some flex is good, as long as a struggling subject can't actually bend it.

And there's no such thing as "gym quality steel", in case you've seen those idiotic ads. But I like a laugh anyway....

Focus.

Okay, easy and safe to build out of wood, what skills and tools do you have?

If you want to evaluate my skills look at the wooden toys on my profile.

not much I work at a furniture factory many years ago, but I can not make something look as good as you have on your profile.
The two pillory was easy to make, they are made out of two old shelves I got from a friend.
Tools for wood, I have a small hand mills, hand planers, hand power saw, drill with a hollow drill

What sort of skills and equipment do you have

SomethingCatchy -> RE: Home Made Toys (6/30/2013 5:17:26 PM)

A grinder will run you around $60 for a cheap one. The different heads for different metal working jobs are cheap. If you're serious about making furniture you need to invest in a well built corded drill anyway, unless you already have one. That's around $100 for a cheap model. A metal working drill bit set is around $40 for high quality, and you can use them for wood working as well. I'd suggest going with a high quality drill bit set if you're completely set on making it out of hardwood. That shit's tough. I've snapped plenty of chintz bits working with birch plywood and pine. And that's all you need for metal working. Seriously.

Oh, and quality hardwood will cost about the same as tubular steel if you price shop for the metal. You can easily take the metal rig apart for travel and storage. The more you take apart a wood rig the more likely you'll weaken the entire thing.

Those pillories are pretty nice. I like the staining.

I have a fair bit of experience doing finishing carpentry. As for tools, I have a table saw, belt sander, skill saw, and power drill. Plus a bunch of hand held tools.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Home Made Toys (6/30/2013 7:19:38 PM)

Perfect...

Use kiln dried 2x4s

Central piece has a hole drilled on one end for the round verticle for the dildo

Use a half lap joint on the rear horizontal. If you want to get fancy, drill a hole through both. Drive a 1/4 20 "T nut" into the hole on the bottom horizontal and you have an easy way to take it apart.

For the front section, do the same. Use plywood screwed to the inside of the horizontal piece. Pattern cut and use leather to hold the head or get fancy.

tallwhiteboy -> RE: Home Made Toys (6/30/2013 8:17:46 PM)

Cool that sounds simple enough. Does the type of stain used afterwards have any potential health effects on the sub? Like is water based the only type I should use?

SimplyMichael -> RE: Home Made Toys (6/30/2013 8:50:46 PM)

The toxic is in the solvents that evaporate, once dry its inert.

Finishing pine is tricky, just use a tinted minwax poly and be done with it.

tallwhiteboy -> RE: Home Made Toys (6/30/2013 9:11:59 PM)

Cool thanks for the advice.

That warped paddle is awesome by the way.
