Can you freakin' believe this? It'll mean the end of any Radical hopes for real power.

The writer of the article should be fired. The thought that Palin would be welcome in an actually libertarian political movement is beyond absurd.

But the moderate Republican split from the ultra's, RR, nuts etc. seems inevitable. The sooner those guys leave or a new moderate right wing party forms the sooner we can get back to something resembling sane governance.

Which would ensure the loss of both parties.

Not for long. One or the other would lose the money men that are needed to make any party viable. The nuts could easily enough go back to voting for the moderate right and just reading the Bircher newsletter. If the ultra cons were ascendant some moderates would hold their noses and join up and some would switch over and become conservative democrats.

The thought that anybody describing themselves as libertarians would vote for Reagan, Bush or his simian offspring, Sorebutt McCain or Captain Magicpants was equally absurd though, and that all happened, didn't it?
"I'm in favour of small government, lower taxes and business being given a free hand, so I'm voting for somebody who was put in power by a federal authority rather than the electorate and has got us into two wars we can't affords to fight while doing everything he can to increase the powers of the federal government at the expense of my civil liberties."
If the libertarians were okay with that, they won't have any problem with caribou Barbie...

Personally I would not mind the GOP breaking in two, with a more moderate bunch remaining the GOP. I would even consider switching parties in that event.

It would be very nice indeed if all of the freaks fucked off to a Palin party and let the sane Conservatives of the Eisenhower pattern take over the party that's sidelined them to cater to the freaks, but you shouldn't hold your breath...

On the one hand, Palin leaving the GOP and (hopefully) taking her wingnuts with her will hurt in the short term because they will be divided.

In the long run, getting rid of the fundies is the only hope the GOP has of being relevant in the future.

Go Sarah........and don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.
